AUGUSTA — The 22-year-old daughter of Maine Gov.-elect Paul LePage is getting a job in her father's administration.

Lauren LePage will work as an assistant to LePage's chief of staff, John McGough.

Officials say Lauren LePage's position is considered entry-level and is commensurate with her experience, work history and education. She will be paid about $41,000 a year.

<snip>

Officials say state rules about hiring relatives don't apply to elected or constitutional officers.

1. Some background
LePage and his wife illegally claimed homestead exemptions on their homes in Florida and Maine (and Florida residency) so they could get in-state tuition for their children at Florida State University (not the University of Maine).

Their daughter does not have a political science degree nor does she have any prior experience for this position - other than being LePage's daughter.

She will be making $41k per year with full state benefits AND living next door (rent free) at the Governor's house with her dad.

For comparison - the starting salary for a NEW high school science teacher in Maine is $31k. Adjunct instructors at Maine community colleges can make no more than $23k - with no benefits.

Is something wrong here?

Not according to the small gov't crowd.

nope

4. The teabaggers did - and LePage won with only 38% of the total vote
and...to make things worse, our new GOP house majority leader bilked Maine taxpayers for $1.6 million in fraudulent medical device charges - and got away with it.

The teabaggers claim he was a "victim" of the jack-booted state Medicaid program.

:wow:
