LaHaye: Japan Earthquake A Sign Of The End Times
Today, Japan was hit by an absolutely devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami and so, of course, the Religious Right reacts as they always do ... by seeing it as a sign of the End Times:

Tim LaHaye, the best-selling author of the "Left Behind" series of Bible prophecy novels, was one of many visiting the island of Maui who had to be evacuated to upper floors of the Marriott Hotel today.

He said being caught in the crossfire of the fourth largest earthquake in modern history helped prepare him for two prophecy conferences he was scheduled to address in Hawaii.

"The Bible tells us in Matthew 24 that one of the signs of the last days – one of the birth pangs to occur – is an increase in earthquake activity and intensity," LaHaye told WND. "We're seeing that happen here. It's not just earthquakes, but hurricanes and all kinds of natural disasters."

6. Seriously I'm having a kick ass birthday party this year since it's a week before the world ends
Everytime I visit my best friend they have those 'End of the world on 5/21/2011' billboards going each direction. My b-day is 5/14 so might as well party like it's the end of the world!

10. Dear Mr. LaHaye
Please either roll up your sleeves and get to work (keep reading until you get to Matthew 25 if you need some ideas for what to do), or open your overstuffed checkbook and write a few large checks. If you're not willing to help in some material fashion, then shut up. Your ignorant ravings are not helping anyone, you fraud.

13. Unpopular question here...
doesn't all the metaphorical catastrphizing that has been predicted for this time in history seem a lot more literal than fanatical, given recent events?

I wrote off all the End of the World'ers as mistaking vague historical and biblical references as factual. But it's hard to deny the incredible run of natural disasters we are experiencing nowadays. Floods, earthquakes, even snow...their recent occurrence is scientifically significant.

15. And they want to confine Charlie Sheen to a mental ward without his consent?
People who think like this should be locked up before Sheen is. This is psycho-talk from a guy who sees imaginary sky people.

17. This is how the Religious cults sell their non-product, the GOP
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 12:00 PM by jemelanson
learned how to sell their non-product message is way also.. It is all about FEAR. FEAR. and more FEAR. Fear of a vengeful GOD who will strike you dead and condemn you to everlasting torture while the saved and redeemed have a perfect view of you torment and screams from their place in heaven. The Bible tells us this. So you must FEAR God and you must Fear the Commies, and you must FEAR anyone who does not look like you, talk like you, dress like you, or believe like you. If you do not convert those non-believers and make them believe like you, then it is your duty to your God whom you must FEAR to wipe them out so that your FEARSOME God can torment them for eternity in his place of eternal Damnation.

(Let us inquire) what glory there was in an omnipotent being torturing forever a puny little creature who could in no way defend himself? Would it be the glory of a man to fry ants?

18. Just like Pseudo-Christian nutjobs said about the great earthquake of 968 A.D.
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 11:56 AM by Zorra
And every other earthquake since Pseudo-Christianity began, whenever that was.

But they don't have to worry, because they are such wonderful human beings that the Spirit in the Sky is gonna vacuum them up to heaven in rapture before the world ends and causes horrible misery to all those filthy depraved heathens that do not believe exactly what they believe.

20. EVERYTHING is a "sign of the end times" to these assholes
I grew up in a fundamentalist church back in the 80s. Even back then, they would routinely use current events as "proof" that the "end times" were near.
