Fundies already working God's Wrath angle into Japan earthquake
Commentary: Forget all that science stuff.

The Japanese quake/tsunami was sent by God himself as punishment. Atheists, will you take heed?

It's quite obvious that the quake/tsunami was punishment, brought down by God himself. His anger at atheistic Japan is apparent, even a moron can see that. Atheists, will you take this warning that God has sent? He sent this warning because he loves you. He loves all his creations and wants everyone on Earth to love him. You have been warned.

1. That might be how they see it.
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 03:44 PM by RandomThoughts
It could have been God that prepared them for earth quakes with good regulation and a good social system.

Why would you think God would want to hurt them? Who is the God of the people that would think that anyways?

I think God wants to share love and protection with people.

Is that really the best such a group can think?

They were prepared is how I see it. Strong buildings, strong society.

5. "...wants everyone on Earth to love him."
so he sends a super-destructive earthquake on Japan (whose people he, apparently, does not wish to have love him).

Some serious cognitive dissonance on their part... except that they don't seem to feel the discomfort associated with it.

14. One must first have cognition
before one can have cognitive dissonance. That pretty much leaves the talibangelicals on four flat tires, epistemologically speaking.

18. Maybe what she tried to say was
God hates Japan but loves America, so he demolished them to give us a warning.

6. Why can't they just acknowledge that often times, the chaos of nature is indifferent to humanty?
I don't see why that's so difficult. Even in completely human affairs, innocent people die, like babies being shot by stray bullets in drive by shootings.

7. I always thought love was suppose to be freely given
But here they say they have a god that will punish us if we do love them.
Sounds like an abusive relationship and so why would we want to love a god like that??

10. For God so loved the world...
...that he brought a massive and powerful earthquake that may, when it's all said and done, bring death to thousands.

I love the cognitive dissonance that passes for religion these days.

WARNING: GOD LOVES YOU.

15. I don' believe they're atheists.
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 03:41 PM by peopleb4money
I think a lot of them believe there's a kind of soul or living essence within everything. This goes back to their Shinto origins, where they believe kami, or spirits, are existent within everything, including inanimate objects like rocks and mountains. A lot of them might not even believe in a personal God, but my impression is that the majority of religious sentient in Japan isn't completely in agreement with the monist materialist atheism of Western philosophy.

the Gold Buckle on the Bible Belt. :eyes:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110301/ap_on_re_us/us_arkansas_earthquakes

The central Arkansas town of Greenbrier has been plagued for months by hundreds of small earthquakes, and after being woken up by the largest quake to hit the state in 35 years, residents said Monday they're unsettled by the increasing severity and lack of warning.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quake at 11 p.m. Sunday, centered just northeast of Greenbrier, about 40 miles north of Little Rock. It was the largest of more than 800 quakes to strike the area since September in what is now being called the Guy-Greenbrier earthquake swarm.

23. Quote I heard in Japan
During a business trip, right after the Kobe quake in 1995. Which was almost exactly one year after the Northridge quake in Los Angeles...epicentered about 2.5 miles from my house...

The quote: "Half of the Japanese are Shinto. Half are Buddhist. And the other half have no religion at all."

(When quoted before - inevitably some humorless, anal-retentive nitpicker will point out that the math doesn't add up. Note: THAT'S THE POINT OF THE JOKE!

And just to make it more confuzzling - half the Japanese are probably Shinto and Buddhist simultaneously.)
