I just heard a bit on the Maddow Blog.... |
|
...from a chick on Fox News. So, let me get this straight. We no longer deserve the right to be paid for the work we do? Teachers apparently don't deserve to be paid and apparently don't work as hard as someone on wall street? Um, EXCUSE ME? Have you worked with a smart ass teenager recently? It's getting worse. Soon they're going to start bitching about having to pay us anything to do any job.

1. here's what i don't get.... |
|
people think that teachers are paid too much or other public workers are paid too much. what about when people decide YOU make too much? what then? i swear i want to ask people if they make too much. like my brother who makes about $40k. well, do you make too much? i will bet he doesn't think he makes too much. I would wager he thinks he doesn't get paid enough. but teachers make too much.

3. I know I wouldn't want to teach. |
|
I don't think paying them $30K or $40K is too much. In places like NYC, that's poverty level. Here in Oklahoma, it would be standard working class wages. I work for a bank and make no where near $30K. Most days I feel like I don't get paid near enough.

4. i know. but it is the point. these folks don't make any more than |
|
anyone else, yet they are making $40000!!! like they are making so much more than anyone else. or even $50k. somehow it is too much. they work part time? really? i just got back from a school carnival to raise money for school stuff and every teacher was there! my daughter's kindergarten teacher was there.... she hadn't even been home yet and it was 7:30 at night!! To my mind they don't get paid enough!! granted, our taxes are less than others might be.... but we consider we are investing in our kids education. it is worth it to me!!

5. And what they aren't telling you is that the teacher subsidizes her classroom. |
|
She buys paper, supplies, and all sorts of things for her classroom with no reimbursement. I know teachers who spend up to 10K each school year just to make sure their classroom is fit for education! Duckie

6. exactly! they are so 'greedy' they spend their own money to |
|
make sure their kids have what they need! i know my sister was complaining about having to send in all kinds of things..... but what do you think happens when no one wants to have to pay taxes!!! someone has to provide these things!
my husband and i were just talking about how we didn't have all these fundraisers and such like they do now. we went on field trips and granted we were kids and all, but I don't ever remember having to bring anything in but kleenex maybe and pencils. we brought in to kindergarten this year, crayons, glue, glue sticks, scissors.... there was a good list there. and we sent in a lot of each to make sure there was extra just in case. i buy a LOT when i buy them. i have a box of supplies so I don't pay $1.00 for a box of crayons i can get for 25cents. I feel I can do that small thing for others who can't.
I want to say.... 15 5 year olds. come on. keep them quiet and sitting and learning. I know i couldn't do it. Teachers do not make nearly enough!

10. All part of the taxes meme |
|
It's never right to extract taxes from somebody, and using tax revenue to pay for needed services is always an undeserved gift.
How that party manages to pass itself off a the super-patriotic party is beyond me.

11. Some in the business community |
|
(mainly Republicans) have been spoiled beyond salvation over the past 30 years and have grown unbearably arrogant. They see public workers as second-class citizens who don't deserve anything because hey, they're just public employees.
