Blind man's guide dog loses his sight - gets a new guide dog who now leads them both around - pics
Blind man keeps his old guide dog after it loses its sight... and then gets a new one who now leads them both around
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 9:49 AM on 11th March 2011

After six years of loyal service, Graham Waspe was devastated when his guide dog Edward was left blind after developing cataracts.

But his devastation turned to joy when his replacement Opal turned out to be a real gem.

Mr Waspe's new dog is not just aiding his owner to carry out everyday tasks, but also helping Edward to get around.

Mr Waspe, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, received his new dog last November after Edward developed the inoperable problem which resulted in him needing both eyes removed.

Walkies! Graham Waspe, who is registered blind, with his blind guide dog Edward (left) and his new guide dog Opal (right) who now guides both of them on walks

Best buddies: The Waspes say the two dogs have got on fine since they came together, with Opal taking Edward to all his old haunts

44. My wife had a toy poodle that went blind.
Hank, one or our cow dogs, took it upon himself to nudge her through the dog door outside, then follow her around until she did her business, then guided her back inside. He did this all on his own without us training him.

My biggest fear about having my house foreclosed is what will happen to our dogs. We will never give them up, even if it means we have to live in the car. They're both getting on in age and they're the light, and the love, and the warmth in our lives.

68. Missouri Legislature Poised To Repeal Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Referendum
__________

For years, Missouri earned the dubious distinction as the nation’s “puppy mill capital” because its lax humane regulations and enforcement allowed dog breeders to raise puppies at low costs in terrible, overcrowded conditions. Last fall, Missouri voters approved a referendum to finally solve this problem — the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act — which mandates regular veterinarian inspections of breeding facilities and ensures a basic level of treatment for dogs, such keeping temperatures between 45 and 85 degrees. Tea party groups stridently opposed the referendum, arguing it was “just another example of big government meddling in people’s lives.” Now, capitalizing on the big gains they made in November, Republicans in the state legislature are poised to repeal the regulations Missouri’s voters enacted:

Saying the new requirements would put the dog breeding industry out of business, the state Senate voted 20-14 on Thursday for a wholesale rewrite.
