japans nuclear reactor emergency |
|
FACTS:
outside the plant they recorded radiation of .59 microseiverts. inside the control room they reached 70 microseiverts.hour or 70 millirems. for comparison la paz bolivia (the worlds highest city) gets radiation of .23 microseiverts per hour just from natural sources. a cross country airplane flight is about 4 millirems. a chest xray is about 8 millirems and the average american get and exposure of 360 millirems per year of which 300 millirems are from natural sources.

1. Nice try fighting the rising tide of panic, lol. |
|
I figure when nothing happens and a few months pass a reasonable conversation may take place. :D

2. The silence is deafening, |
|
and the unrecs are obvious.
It seems no one wants facts to get in the way of an alleged nuclear drama.

people are either hysterical about possible fallout, or they're part of the nuclear lobby?
Holy fuck...

10. And so you are now ascribing a motive to me? |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 09:59 PM by darkstar3
I'm not *very concerned* right now. I am concerned for the personal safety and sanity of the engineers currently working the problem, but at the moment I wouldn't say that I'm *very concerned* about similarities to Chernobyl or TMI.
I guess recognizing that we've made scientific progress in the field of nuclear energy means I'm part of some lobby or I have some motive, even though all I do is IT.

11. Thank you for confirming how little people read. |

You know, there's a link next to every poster's name that will actually tell you whether or not that poster is "new"...

8. well, for whatever time it takes to discover whether this really is a disaster |
|
or something other...
do I have to apologize for being scared shitless, and to whom?
If it's man made, it can break. just that simple.

Just kidding. Are those numbers significant? Does that mean there's no problem, or just no problem right now?

If anybody can design for this kind of thing, it's these guys. Wish 'em luck.

13. Maybe we can let the Japanese work the problem and stop borrowing trouble. |
|
There's a lot of misinformation and panic on display already. There's no reason to speculate on worst case scenarios unless you're going for dramatic effect.

16. It's clearly not Chernobyl. It's not good, and could turn into something like Three Mile Island... |
|
But it's not at Three Mile Island yet, and it's not even close to Chernobyl. Hopefully, the engineers get some auxiliary generators running, get some more cooling on those reactors, and get this situation under control.

17. Wind will blow nuclear cloud to west coast. Any wind map links? |
|
Any wind map links you know are good? I come up with land but want low atmosphere wind real-time over the Pacific Ocean.
