Has Rachel Maddow ever been a college professor? |
|
I often feel like I am in class with a particularly good prof when I watch her show. :)

1. If she's like most PhDs--- she likely was a TA (teacher assistant) |
|
during her post-graduate work. It is typical that the TAs do most of the teaching for Senior Professors. So, probably so, yes.

At least not here in Illinois at the state schools. Professors do most of the teaching, I've never had a T.A. teach a class.

11. At my place we all teach. |
|
In fact, we cannot use research money to "buy out" of classes below a minimal level of teaching. And professors do teach some undergraduate classes -- I certainly have done many. However, the other side is that our doctoral students need the experience (and the listing on their CVs) of teaching, so we try to reserve as many undergraduate classes as possible for them to teach. It's a balancing act.

13. All four universities I've been associated with everyone does teach...but |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 10:11 PM by hlthe2b
it is a matter of degree... Undergrad courses are "led" by the Professor, but at a minimum, co-taught by the TA (s). Graduate seminars, tend to be the sole purvue of the senior Professor, with, perhaps a TA offering student assistance, and covering "grading" and other routine duties.

18. At which school? I had some TAs at ISU. Not as many as my friends |
|
at the U of I, because it's a research school, I think. But most of my 100 and some 200 level courses were taught by TAs.
