"crisis...unwillingness to make rich pay their share"
http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/column/article_5cad0930-4b67-11e0-b640-001cc4c03286.html

"U.S. corporations are sitting on $2 trillion in cash -- trillion, not billion. The same people who shipped millions of jobs overseas, caused the financial crisis, and pay themselves multimillion-dollar bonuses every year are now sitting on a mountain of cash. Yet both state and local governments feel the need to give them more tax cuts. To what end? So they can create more profits and sit on bigger piles of cash, so they can play monopoly as they buy each other out, or so they can give themselves even bigger bonuses? There is no indication that they are interested in doing anything to spur the economy.

In December we heard the Republicans tell us that people making over $250,000 per year couldn’t afford a 4 percent tax increase, and it would be terrible for the economy to increase their taxes. Thirty years ago they were paying 70 percent in taxes. Now they pay half that, but a 4 percent increase is just too much to bear.

Now we are told that state workers making $40,000 to $60,000 per year are stealing the state blind. The same workers who for the last two years have taken over a 3 percent pay cut in the form of furloughs are now told they haven’t sacrificed enough. Now they must forfeit 7 percent or more of their pay, and give up their right to negotiate their future. What is appalling is the state workers were willing to give up the money to help out the state. All they asked was to keep their right to negotiate. Yet the wealthiest in our country aren’t willing to give up anything to help our country out of the financial mess they created..."

3. Yeah, I'm giving up 8-10% of my take home pay, and I am NO WHERE
near that magic $250,000 a year mark.

Can't afford 4% more in taxes, my backside, you sycophantic parasites (or is that redundant?)

TAX THE RICH!

TAX THE RICH!

TAX THE RICH!

TAX THE RICH!

TAX THE RICH!

TAX THE RICH!

TAX THE RICH!

10. I just got this letter today... ugh
Dear XXXXXX

Thank you for writing. President Obama has heard from many Americans about the recent tax cut agreement, and we want to make sure you are aware of some relevant information about this important issue.

President Obama is committed to doing what is right for the American people, for jobs, and for economic growth. Because of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, working families will be able to keep their tax cuts, those looking for work will be able to keep their unemployment insurance, and job creation will be spurred by payroll tax cuts and investment incentives. Independent economic experts have concluded that, taken together, this package of tax cuts should significantly accelerate the pace of our Nation's economic recovery.

This bill was a compromise, and like all compromises, there were some provisions in the bill that President Obama did not agree with, particularly the temporary extension of tax breaks to the wealthiest two percent of Americans and a more generous treatment of the estate tax than is warranted. But President Obama was not willing to allow taxes to go up for middle-class families or to cut vital support for people who are looking for work in these tough times.

Here are some more resources on the middle class tax cuts and unemployment insurance agreement that you may find helpful:

•White House White Board: Tax Cuts, Unemployment Insurance, and Jobs: http://wh.gov/OtT
•Framework Agreement on Middle Class Tax Cuts and Unemployment Insurance: http://wh.gov/OLV
•The President Signs the Tax Cut & Unemployment Insurance Compromise: "Some Good News for the American People this Holiday Season": http://wh.gov/Otd
•The President's Weekly Address: Tax Cuts Kicking In: http://wh.gov/cjR
Thank you again for writing. President Obama is grateful to hear from thousands of Americans each day, and we appreciate your taking the time to contact the White House.

Sincerely,

The White House

11. The crisis point passed long ago.
We have entered the point where a drastic recovery is needed. It's so bad that the people of power that do care have no idea where to even begin.

14. Honestly I'm not so sure they are.
All in all though I think there is only one place to really begin. True election reform. Time frames of running platforms, money involved, and term limits will be the only thing that really brings any kind of significant change.
