that the anti-union people, every one of whom seems to be financially well off, use the comparison that a Union worker makes $51,000 a year for the same job a private sector worker would get paid $38,000?
Now I understand how this might make a person in the private sector angry. But, and this is just me asking, doesn't it seem, that paying say, a teacher, who pretty much holds the future of our country in their hands, fifty grand a year, is a FUCKING BARGAIN?
NOW I'M FUCKING SORRY IF A PRIVATE SECTOR WORKER ONLY MAKES $38,000 A YEAR. MAYBE IF THEY WERE IN A FUCKING UNION THEY WOULDN'T BE GETTING ROYALLY FUCKED OVER
Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

I used the same argument with a friend this week...who is a Democrat and should know better...I told her that the union workers were not overpaid, the private sector was underpaid.

4. They are asking the wrong question |
|
The question isn't why are they making more. The question should be why are they not making as much as them.

I have GOT to get to sleep, so I'm not going to look for the statistics, but at least in Wisconsin, the numbers being quoted by those people you're referring to are absolute bullshit.
I saw a tweet or a sign (they all run together these days - maybe it was a chant) to the effect of
From a teacher: My working environment is your child's learning environment.
Pretty sure it had better wording than that, but it was pretty cool.
Hope your chest is feeling lighter now. :D

there are many of us that can't unionize... a lot of the bitching is really jealousy... people that have unions are very, very fortunate. It is a tough fight and many don't know how to do it

The non-unionized worker doesn't get paid as much because the non-unionized worker's boss feels free to screw him/her over without fear of reprisals. So when you hear a right-wing mouth-breather use that talking point, just say, "That's just for right now. How long do you think it will be before the non-unionized worker's employer starts cutting that salary back to $28,000? And then $18,000? And then $8,000? And then you've got people working 22-hour days for a piece of moldy bread, and who will stand up for them?"

9. They never tell you how much a private sector worker |

makes that has a union. As a steelworker I made over $50000 a year with no overtime and if I wanted to take on more reponsibility or work a lot of overtime I could have made over $100000. That is with a high school education. The same goes for many other unionized jobs. You combine those jobs with minimum wage jobs at McDonalds of course the private sector makes less than public sector jobs.
