Ministry Officials say one hour of exposure at the site is now equivalent to more than one year of background radiation. Those evacuating are advised to wash, scrubbing thoroughly, and safely dispose of clothing on reaching their destination.

6. Please explain. I heard on the BBC the explosion came from the reactor core chamber,

and design, no substantial area exist that could accumulate hydrogen anywhere near secondary containment facility. Just where do you think the iodine is coming from? Waste? It has a rather short half life you know.

3. Probably not. Unlike Chernobyl there won't be a big blast into the upper atmosphere.
