I would consider it an honor and totally cool if this truly was the end of times..... |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 08:30 AM by trumad
Think about it...Mankind has existed for a 2 to 300,000 years....
My existence on this planet---if I'm lucky will be 100 years.
If the end of times occurs in my tiny 100 years-----well----that would be fucking awesome.
Edited for correct time on earth.

22. There are those who believe they have not only a physical |
|
body, but also a non-material soul. It wouldn't make too much difference even if the whole earth were to be burnt to ashes by the sun's becoming a super-nova (which, scientists say, will happen in about 5 billion years).
There are zillions of other planets that can support physical beings -- however these beings may look like, and whatever the chemistry they're made up of.
So what's there to worry about? :o)

20. The Swiss have built shelters deep into the Alps with enough |
|
necessities for their whole population to last 5 years. Every year they remove the oldest supplies and put in a year's worth of new ones.
Let's say there is an all-out world-wide nuclear conflict. The majority of Swiss wouldn't make it on time to the shelters, but those living nearby would. So, some Swiss would survive.
I understand the Swedes have some similar provisions for their population. Some of them would survive, too.
The human race most likely will continue, regardless of what happens (including natural disasters like being hit by a huge rock from space).
Some American expatriates are living in those countries.

4. But it is not the end of the earth that is being predicted. |
|
It is an end to an age....but it is then predicted that we will have a thousand years of peace....where we beat our swords into plowshares and every man sits under his own fig tree. At least those are the predictions of the Bible. So I too would welcome seeing the end of one age that was absorbed with violence and hate and the beginning of one of love and peace....you bet.

5. Ever seen the film "Last Night?" |
|
A great Canadian flick from Don McKellar. Half moving depiction of how people would react to the end/half black comedy
As the sun is about to go nova, McKellar's character makes the very same point as you.

too damned cheery. Stop that and go to your room.
and while you're there, make your bed and fold your clothes. I don't care if the end of the world IS coming, it's not getting you out of doing your chores!

There was a guy holding a sign that said "REPENT" standing by the roadside asking for money. He looked a lot like Jeebus. I knew I shoulda gave him some bucks. Guess I'll prepare for a "warm" eternity.

10. Mankind has been around for several hundred thousand years, not millions, but other than that |

Yeah, if this really were the 'End Times' it would be a bittersweet honor to experience one of the primary Long Term Prophecies of humanity.

23. Just look at the larger picture: Our earth will end some day, since |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 10:24 AM by Cal33
all stars and their planets do. It's only a question of when and how. But, out of the "ashes" new stars and planets will be formed. This has been going on for the past 14 billion years, ever since the Big Bang.
There are some 400 billion stars in our galaxy the Milky Way, and some 100 to 200 billion other galaxies. From the sheer numbers alone, mathematically there are bound to be other planets capable of supporting living forms. Many of them have already been terminated, and new ones are being formed. Our solar system will go through the same thing. It's a natural process.
