Our daughter and her gaming friends on Second Life are doing some good...
the artists on there (our daughter included) are creating new items to be sold for the sole purpose of donating directly to UNICEF in their help with the Japanese earthquake disaster. This is what I love to see about our global environment, people coming together to help someone else in need.

2. Gotta love it when young people get involved...
especially artists, it helps them directly contribute to something outside of themselves rather than creating just to create.

3. That's fascinating and wonderful...
I'm personally not into games...on FB or anywhere...but I'm fascinated by the potential they have to put compassion, empathy and cooperation into action.

Good for your daughter and her friends! The young people really ARE full have hope and potential -- and are doing great things -- and, in general, patently reject the racism and bigotry which still defines our generation.

:applause:

4. They certainly do...
they really care, it's just that they feel ineffective because of promises made and then broken. They're not sure who to trust anymore, so a "cause" or "issue" stirs them up and makes them feel included much more so than a person. If they know someone in need it makes more of an impact (as it does most of us), and the gaming community owes a lot to the Japanese so they have a special place in their hearts for them.

And our daughter is appalled pretty much every day by the hypocrisy of the corporatists.

5. On FB, Zynga has done the same
I was surprised how quickly they got the promotions up & running--sometime overnight, it seems, because the offers weren't there last night when I logged off.

They raised millions for Haiti, from players all over the globe, so they'll be raising a lot for Japan too.

6. twitter, facebook, youtube, the internet and the rest of the social
and international networking made ALL of this happen and will save us all in the end. Who knew?
