I fancy myself a writer, but... |

When it comes to humor, all of my best material comes from my husband. He's the smartest person I know, and has the quickest wit. He's a master of the non-sequiter, and makes me spew my coffee on a daily basis. So, I happily steal from him, write it up, and take credit. And he let's me. He's cute, too.
Anyway, yesterday I was sitting at my computer reading the news and drinking my coffee (you'd think I'd learn after all these years), and he wanders into the room. I began to talk gravely about the newest wildfire near our house that was being frantically worked on by the same heroic firefighters who put out last year's big fire. (We live in the mountains above Boulder, CO). Then I read to him from another story about all of the wildfires in Oklahoma that are stretching resources.
"Are they thinking arson?" he asked.
"Dunno," I said, taking a large swallow of java.
"Hmm. Better be careful. They start taking away those firefighters' pensions, and you never know what you'll be up against." And he walked out.
I know it's a little irreverent, but I immediately felt the familiar feeling of coffee spurting out my nostrils.
