From Reddit: "I suggest we start referring to Republicans as 'Regressives'"
http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/g25q7/i_suggest_we_start_referring_to_republicans_as/

by Aymicabeza

Several people, myself included, have been mulling this over. Currently, the right stands for the complete repeal of every single point of objectively positive legislation that has been passed over he last century, clamoring for a return to an age of robber barons and unmitigated corporate greed. I can think of no system of political values that deserve the term "regressive" more than they do at this point. A retreat from progress is, by definition, "regression". The title of "conservative" no longer applies. It's time they were given a name that truly befits them.

The morally bankrupt scum operating behind the curtains of the right have long since understood that precise use of language can be an incredibly powerful tool. Currently, they're trying to turn "progressive" into a greasy slur, exactly the same way they somehow managed to turn "liberal" into a second name for the devil. I suggest we hit them back by describing them honestly.

Count me in!

13. The "other f-word" has lost its power, though
It has become so overused as to be virtually meaningless. It may be factually correct, but it just sounds like a mindless insult.

14. that's because people shrug from the truth
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 02:14 PM by fascisthunter
rather than standing by it, the same way many democrats shrug away from being labeled liberals, too afraid to counter the bs. Well, when we do that, we deserve the lies.

21. I think it's partly "boy who cried wolf" syndrome as well
When every stroppy teenager uses the word every time they're told to tidy their room, its real meaning becomes obscured.

I prefer to call them "right wing, red neck, neo-fascist Nazis". See how it just kinda rolls off your tongue? And sometimes, when I am able to first take a deep breath, I love to preface my loving sonnet with "crude, rude, obnoxious,"..... Believe me, living here along the southern rim of Yosemite has given me a lot of practice in saying it.

I think "Regressive" is great. I've used it before, It is strong, truthful, and is not offensive, thus people nicer than I will also use it. :-)

They want to take the country back in time to so may things, Regressive is just a natural description.

22. Progressives vs. Regressives. Nice framing.
Actually, no need to limit the term to Republicans.
It would fit some non-republicans also.

27. Regressive definately fits
I'd like to give my boilerplate caution on the use of fascist, although today's radical right and the radical right that emerged between the two world wars have many similarities. It is racist and imperialist; it glorifies war as a tool of foreign policy (in classical fascism, war was really an end in itself); and seeks the subjugation of organized labor (at least Mussolini offered workers a shorter work week, better pay and job security in return for giving up the right to strike, Governor Walker is just giving state employees the finger). Nevertheless, where in classical fascism the government told industry what to do by setting production goals and priorities, what we see happening today is industry attempting to seize control of government in order to preempt the will of the people where it conflicts with industry's own interests.

30. Ah, but don't you think that GOP is a moniker that
they should have to take with them to their graves? I mean, whenever I hear one of the died in the wool say those letters, my response is always, "GOP? Isn't that the sound that shit makes when it's flung against a wall?".
