Waste To Energy Is The Only Alternative In A Sane Society. Nuclear Just Repeats Same Madness
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 01:41 PM by KittyWampus
Nuclear energy simply replaces petroleum in the same broken paradigm.

Nuclear is extractive and highly centralized. It involves all the energy/infrastructure dedicated to extracting it from a few locations, transporting it over long distances, processing it and then using it in plants that will always be vulnerable to accidents.

Nuclear proponents never address all the hidden costs involved in using nuclear fuel. Nor do they ever address the centralization and the perils of having nuclear energy done by private, profit seeking corporations.

We've seen there's a lack of regulation by government in the US. It's not as bad under Democrats but it's almost totally absent under Republicans. And no matter who is in charge politically, corporate executives are always keen on cutting costs and putting off maintenance.

The alternative. The only one for a sane society going forward, is waste to fuel.

Taking the local garbage to a local plant to create fuel and energy. It can be done by municipalities all over the country. Localized energy. No more relying being slaves to petroleum OR nuclear industries.

Long Island already does this. We are one of the greenest areas in the country regarding energy production. Denmark is doing it.

The facts are there in support of what I have just said.

Nuclear energy simply replaces petroleum in the same broken paradigm.

1. No single technology will be sufficient to meet current and forecast demand
Even renewable as a whole can not do it. That does not mean we should not move in that direction, just that it should not be expected to be sufficient by itself.

2. Honolulu and O'ahu have been doing this for years
it's called H-POWER. Kills two birds with one stone: the island's voracious energy needs (picture Waikiki at night) and its critically limited landfill space.

NYC might be another candidate; with the closing of Staten Island's Fresh Kills landfill, its garbage is being trucked out of state, mainly to PA and VA.

3. Kick. One Nuclear accident reverses the whole cost\benefit scenario.
