'Tractorcade' in Wisconsin - lots of pics
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 02:14 PM by Kadie

MADISON, WI - MARCH 12: Farmers drive their tractors in a 'tractorcade' during a demonstration outside of the Wisconsin State Capitol on March 12, 2011 in Madison, Wisconsin. Tens of thousands of protestors staged a massive demonstration outside of the Wisconsin State Capitol one day after Gov. Scott Walker signed his controversial budget repair bill into law.

edited to add...

A demonstrator drives a tractor outside the state Capitol Saturday, March 12, 2011, in Madison, Wis. While Gov. Scott Walker has already signed a contentious collective bargaining bill into law, demonstrators insist the fight is not over. For some, the focus has shifted from trying to stop passage of the bill to generating momentum for recall efforts against Republicans. Others are simply venting their frustration over the law taking away most of public workers' collective bargaining rights.

Hey, Scott Walker - Come Smell My Dairy Air!

Not that there's any hope Walker or his Teabagger minions would ever get the joke, it's just an oldie but goodie from the Dairy state. (Sorry, no screenshot of the sign, but here's the button)

Actually, I have never seen such clean tractors. If that was me driving a tractor to the rally I would have left the mud and manure on. Nothing says f-you like a smelly mess.

46. Antique tractors -- Older than I am
That Farmall "Super C" is from roughly 1950. We had a regular "C" from 1948, old as I am. Spent many a day on it.

Many of these tractors have been restored, just like with cars. Still great to see them.

55. Did you see the article in the NY Times last week?
The new/young farmers are buying older (smaller) tractors to work their farms. According to the article they are buying them on craigs list in the antiques section. They are even buying/using antique corn shellers.

I am from a Farmall family. However, my Dad had a Ford tractor that I learned to drive when I was 9. Drove it everywhere. That was in the early 50s. Today everyone would have a cow if they saw a little girl driving in to town to get a few groceries or the mail.

52. Heh, one of the guys in the tractorcade was pulling a manure spreader.
Wish I could find a pic of it.

Tod Pulvermacher, 33, of Bear Valley, towed a manure spreader carrying a sign that read, "Walker's bill belongs here."

"Farmers are working-class Americans," he said as the crowd cheered. "We work for a living as hard as anybody, and this is about all of us."

http://www.startribune.com/local/117852408.html

"This is about all of us." Yes, it certainly is. Well done, Tod.

I'm sure if they would have left their tractors muddy, the M$M would have portrayed them as a bunch of dirty, smelly slobs. That is, if they even bothered to cover the rally at all.

But I have to admit, those clean tractors sure do look nice. That Farmall is absolutely beautiful.

21. Another rally that hardly anyone will hear about.
The news sites are running the terrible tragedy in Japan and even their webpages are barely even mentioning the rally. If they do mention the labor rallies it's with a headline like "Labor supporters Just Won't Quite" and I saw that they are perfectly happy to run every right-wing soundbite available like "Palin: Union bosses 'like thugs'".

You an bet that if a teabagger farts somewhere they would have cameras all over it.

88. Might not be the case.
According to Rachel Maddow there is a huge effort by these same newly elected Republican governors to make voter registration and voting more difficult. There is a reason for their smug attitude, like maybe they will win reelection no matter how mobilized we are. Stealing elections is nothing new for these people/corporations.

We saw Tony Shaloub and his sister (a teacher in Denmark WI), Jesse Jackson, Tom Barrett and our fabulous WI 14. Humongous crowd, though my husband said they are already down-playing the turn out. Great pics! I'll post our pics tomorrow!

Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 10:39 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
and we've been to 2 that were estimated at 100,000. This crowd was all the way around the square, not only filling the streets comptetely (to the point of claustrophobia) but also the sidewalks,AND all the connecting streets, AND State Street for at least 3/4 down to the campus mall at the peak.

65. JUST GOT HOME-This was Huge
If they estimate anything less than 150,000 they are not telling the truth. In fact I think this was more like 200-250,000, as did others we talked to. We are reeling from the energy

75. Yeah.
Now there's a bunch that get it. This isn't just an attack on public service unions, it's an assault on all workers everywhere.

85. Love The Cows
I looked all over the web yesterday for a live feed and couldn't find one that was working. I so wanted to see the tractors rolling in but these pictures have taken me there and for that I thank you. What a snap shot of our America. So proud.

This is beautiful.

This is a good start. But it won't be nearly enough to stem the tide of rising fascism. We need similar efforts in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

94. And THAT ia ALL you need to know about today's....
"New Democrat Centrist Party".

It is NOT the FDR/LBJ "Democratic Party" I joined 44 years ago.

Who will STAND and represent THIS American Majority?
Rhetoric, broken promises, and excuses mean NOTHING now.
"By their WORKS you will know them,"
and by their WORKS they will be judged.
