FLORIDA Solidarity PROTESTS this TUESDAY March 15 -- list of "Defend The Dream" events!!
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 03:36 PM by nashville_brook
Hey everyone -- we have less than 60 days to impact this legislative session in Tallahassee, while also getting our message out about Federal budgets and workers' rights issues. MoveOn.org is sponsoring a nationwide "Defend The Dream" action. Can you come out and play? Use the links to RSVP an event in your area! If your area isn't listed (Jacksonville, I'm talking to you), you can also sign up to host one!

PS -- Please kick and rec for visibility!

Republicans in Congress are holding the middle class hostage—proposing a federal budget that would would cut 700,000 to 1 million jobs from our communities and slash funding to support preschool and college students, pregnant women, unemployed workers, and much more. This isn't a budget, it's a slap in the face to the public workers, services, and institutions making the American Dream possible. We have until the March 18 budget deadline to push Congress in another direction.

Description The Florida legislature is planning for more education cuts. They are also considering reducing collective bargaining benefits for teachers. We need to send a message to our legislatures that the future of our children depends on the quality of education they get. With continuing cuts and eliminating collective bargaining benefits to our teachers, our children education will suffer. Hernando County is already suffering from deteriorating education standards, we cannot afford to slip down any further.

Description The American middle class is under attack. Republicans in DC want to shut down the government if they don't get their right to cut things we need, Republicans in Wisconsin are doing the same, and we all know what our Governor/Medicare-fraudster is doing here in Florida. We have had enough! We are rallying at the corner of 580 and McMullen-Booth Road (near Countryside High School) to send a message to Rick Scott, to our legislature, and to Washington that we won't take this anymore. We rallied on the 26th, we will rally on the 15th, and we will keep rallying until they get the message. I've had enough and I know you have too! Join us on the 15th to Defend The Dream and Save The American Middle Class!

Description Join us to stand up against the Congressional budget cuts that are threatening our jobs our lives and our country. These draconion cuts target the elderly, the disabled, pregnant women, children and our educational system and will cost up to a million jobs. These cuts are based on a false choice because the corporations and the wealthy aren't contributing their fair share and make none of the sacrifices. State governors are attacking the few remaining workers' rights by dismantling the unions that are the last defenders of the people who are the downtrodden majority of this country. We must stand up for ourselves and those who cannot stand up for themselves!!!

The teachers, professors, police officers, educators, wildlife workers, public health workers, and other hard working, middle class, public servants are in danger of slipping out of the middle class with the proposed changes to the Florida pension system and benefits.
