9. On the plus side, at least the area is already evacuated and
hopefully they now have a handle on what to do about it before it goes critical.

note to self - Think positive.

15. Good for you. I was running it all night - it's your turn now...
as I have people coming for dinner and haven't started cooking yet. You'll find it drops like a rock tho' unless you personally update it - not enough 'drama' too any facts!

good luck - keep it going - people are real short on factual reports right now.

From the Reuters link for this:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/12/us-japan-quake-nuclear-cooling-idUSTRE72B3GI20110312

A quake-hit Japanese nuclear plant reeling from an explosion at one of its reactors has also lost its emergency cooling system at another reactor, Japan's nuclear power safety agency said on Sunday.

The emergency cooling system is no longer functioning at the No.3 reactor at Tokyo Electric Power Co's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility, requiring the facility to urgently secure a means to supply water to the reactor, an official of the Japan Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency told a news conference.

2212: Some clarification: It is the number three reactor at the Fukushima No. 1 plant where officials have just announced that the cooling system has failed. This morning's blast took place at the number one reactor at the same plant. "All the functions to keep cooling water levels in No. 3 reactor have failed at the Fukushima No. 1 plant," a spokesman for the operator said.

20. BBC "Act of Desperation"
2318: US nuclear experts warn that pumping sea water to cool a quake-hit Japanese nuclear reactor is an "act of desperation" that may foreshadow a Chernobyl-like disaster, AFP reports. "The situation has become desperate enough that they apparently don't have the capability to deliver fresh water or plain water to cool the reactor and stabilise it, and now, in an act of desperation, are having to resort to diverting and using sea water," said Robert Alvarez, who works on nuclear disarmament at the Institute for Policy Studies

21. More information from CNN
Their information comes from director of Japan's nuclear services foreign affairs.

Official says there possibly maybe a meltdown occurring at reactor 1. Their engineers have not been able to get close to the core. He is saying their assumptions that a meltdown is taking place has to do with the fact that they have measured radioactive cesium and iodine in the air on Saturday night.

24. I'm willing to go with that, but CNN can be pretty loose with the 'facts'
- They said it was reactor #4 (it's #3).

And they really fucked me over 2 nights ago when I had a bunch of old dears calling me at 3am because CNN said we had to evacuate. We never had to, but I took the where they wanted to go anyway - it was easier than explaining the difference between a warning and an advisory.

Sstill hearing there is some hope - not a lot - but some.

Stay safe
