3. A "freak" wave. The giant waves mariners have talked about for years. |

Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 05:04 PM by Poll_Blind
They have only just recently been confirmed. If you Wiki it you can find a great deal of interesting information on the subject along with some startling information gleaned from a European satellite about the frequency of these monster waves.

I live on the West coast of Florida and their is a news article about one that capsized a boat off of Boca Grande. As long as I have lived here (1976) I have never heard of one.

I posted this in another post (I live on the West coast of Florida and their is a news article about one that capsized a boat off of Boca Grande. As long as I have lived here (1976) I have never heard of one.) Is why I was asking.

19. With statistical analysis ..... |
|
you need to be prepared to throw out about 5% of the results because they can be "off the charts" crazy. The somewhat random action of waves in the ocean can create extraordinarily large waves when currents, amplitudes, and speeds fall into place. Some waves, detected by satellite, appear over 100 feet tall when ordinary physics would place the maximum somewhere 60 to 80 feet.
