Now that Nukes are off the table, I hope Obama spends the $36 Billion on solar or wind. We need a REAL progressive RENEWABLE power plan.

3. Did someone say they are off the table?
I'm thinking, seeing our President and leaders in action, the $36 Billion in Nuke grants will go for Nuke grants. It's only money after all.

6. You do know that this won't deter Cheney's pro-nuclear ambitions.
While focused on the oil company's influence during the Bush years -- and BushCo's influence on the oil industry -- the big story was what Dick "Dick" Cheney and KBR and Halliburton were doing to advance N-plant construction in the U.S.

Foremost among Cheney's efforts; fast tracking N-plant construction by eliminating all plant inspections until AFTER a plant was finished. Just one big final inspection before issuing a license. You know, those pesky inspections during construction take time and cost money.

Of course, nothing could go wrong with this scenario. Just as nothing could have gone wrong in Japan. Or TMI. And the same industry shills will stand before Congress and testify that it is DIFFERENT here in the U.S., that a Japan-style incident could never happen here. And what remains of the industry regulators (are there any left?) will dutifully grant lisences and award new tax subsidies.

Because when huge amounts of money are at stake, we can always rationalize stupidity.

7. Our President Obama supports these ambitions.
so I would say Obamas pro-nuclear ambitions. Cheney is no longer in power, at least in front of the curtain.

This part you have said it so perfect,
"Of course, nothing could go wrong with this scenario. Just as nothing could have gone wrong in Japan. Or TMI. Thank you.

12. Obama has always supported N energy, but Cheney instituted fast track.
And Cheney still is "in the business" in a big way. He never had to divest himself of Halliburton or KBR, and he'll profit handsomely from fast tracked N plant construction.

I don't deny that I am, and have always been. more than a little uneasy with Obama's positions on both nuclear and coal. But he didn't write the fast track laws and he isn't building the plants. Maybe this will change his mind...but I doubt it.
