SW Iowa Man Giving Away Candy Not A Threat
SW Iowa Man Giving Away Candy Not A Threat

SIDNEY, Iowa -- Police say a southwest Iowa man who was using lollipops to get children to come to his pickup truck isn't a threat and only wanted to give the children the candy.

Sidney Police Chief Todd Poppie said the man is an older gentleman who just wanted to give the candy to the children Wednesday. He said he spoke to the man and explained that the children could be leery if they don't know him and that it could be concerning to parents.

Poppie tells the Daily Nonpareil in Council Bluffs that officers checked with residents in the southwest Iowa town and they confirmed the man didn't mean any harm.

Poppie says residents said the man has been doing it for a long time.

2. There's so much hysteria out there about potential child abusers...
It's no wonder many parents don't even let their kids play outside anymore.

Funny, but the risk of a freak kidnapper enticing a kid away today is no greater than it was 50 years ago, yet somehow kids of that generation still survived.

We're a much more insulated and over-protective society these days it would seem, and that's not necessarily for the better.

of a childhood friend.
