I got to hear Molly Ivins talk about how that all came about when DFA held its national convention in Austin a few years back. :) She said she & some others (possibly Jim Hightower?) were all sitting around wondering what they could do to show their disgust at the KKK being given a parade permit to march at the Capitol. Obviously, the KKK would love it if the counter-protesters were violent & would ignore any signs they carried, so Molly said "Why don't we just moon 'em?" She wrote that up in a column--AS A JOKE--and sure 'nuff, Austinites took her at her word. The second the parade started, the crowd of counter-protesters turned around, dropped trou, & bent over.

She was on to their bullshit before most of us recognized it was bullshit.
Her article on the destructive nature of the then new Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act(Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999)was a gem. She was livid that such a thing could be perpetrated on the American people. She predicted dire consequences. The meltdown would have been impossible without that piece of garbage legislation that did away with Glass Steagal. Just imagine, Phil Gramm was McCain's financial adviser in the 2008 election. What a country!
