eta: Miyagi is also the area where 10,000 are missing because of the tsunami and is a different prefecture than Fukushima

See post #14 for update - this is a different area from the nuclear plants that have been having the problems

It's north of Fukushima prefecture.
I guess these equate to counties or states.

4. Just updated O.P. noting Miyagi is a different prefecture from Fukushima
so not sure if this is related to the plant there that shut down or to other reasons.

19. This report is about Miyagi
There is a different plant there - the Onagawa plant, which apparently had a fire on Friday.

The update below says it doesn't have anything to do with the plant, but they think it may be blowing there from Fukushima.

I'm not sure of the distance involved here, but this is a new issue.

13. There was a THIRD nuclear plant affected
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 02:15 AM by intaglio
Onagawa nuclear plant and that was nearer the epicentre than either of the Fukishima plants and it is in Miyagi Prefecture. It is run by Tohoku Electric Power snd a fire was reported in it's turbine hall.

14. Update - radiation may be blowing from Fukushima to Miyagi
http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/asiapacific/news/article_1625660.php/Radiation-levels-increase-400-times-in-quake-hit-province

Radiation levels increase 400 times in quake-hit province
Mar 13, 2011, 7:41 GMT

Experts in the north-eastern Japanese prefecture of Miyagi Sunday measured radiation levels 400 times above normal, the Kyodo News agency reported.
A spokesman of local electricity provider Tohuku said the reactors in the region were stable. Increased levels of radiation had been measured around the Onagawa power station, but it was believed that the radiation did not originate from that plant.
There was no immediate danger to people's health, experts said in a televised statement.
It is believed that the radiation blew in from Fukushima province, where two power plants suffered damage following the 8.9-magnitude quake that shook Japan on Friday and technical workers were trying to prevent a core meltdown.

24. Important update: State of emergency for Onagawa declared
http://www.thejournal.ie/japanese-authorities-declare-state-of-emergency-at-second-nuclear-plant-2011-03/

JAPAN’S NUCLEAR AUTHORITIES have declared a state of emergency at a second nuclear power plant in the country, after its operator reported an unexplained increase in the level of radioactive readings in its surrounding area.

Authorities have declared the lowest possible state of emergency – a level 1 alert, with level 7 being the most severe – at the Onagawa plant, near Ishinomaki in the Miyagi prefecture that has borne most of the damage from Friday’s earthquake and the resulting tsunamis.

~~~
Those levels are around 700 times the normal level, TEPCO added, but were still considered low.
The IAEA has said that the three reactor units at the station are “under control”, and said the state of emergency was declared as a legal requirement.
It has begun investigations to identify the source of the radiation – as Japan’s nuclear authorities suggested that yesterday’s blast at Fukushima I, which is about 120km away, might be to blame for the scattered radioactive substances being recorded near Onagawa.
So, the level has increased from the 400 reported last night to 700 now. And we now know the distance of this nuclear plant being 120 km away from the Fukushima plants.
That's a much larger distance than the evacuation zone from Fukushima. I wonder if they will increase that.
The Miyagi prefect was one of the hardest hit areas, with the earthquake and tsunami. Earlier reports from here noted a fire in a turbine building on March 11 that was extinguished and a water leak.
I've noticed that most reports on this start off with the information about Onagawa, then add updates about Fukushima, which may be part of what is leading to confusing the two.
The article goes on to say that
