I see the animal rights activists are placing "blood and gore" ads on our DU pages |
|
I don't welcome them. The advertisements, that is. The animal rights people can craft a much better message for an audience like the Democratic Underground.
For the record, I don't patronize the cow and chicken industry.

1. what's wrong with them? |
|
I'm not a vegie but I'd be very happy to see the meat/chicken industry close down.
I don't know that there is a "better" message. There are diffferent messages, that could be posted in the ads, true.
But I think the "best" message - whether it is about eating meat or about getting out of Afghanistan -is the one that is the most effective, not the one that is the prettiest. For some people seeing what really goes on in a slaughterhouse (or on the battlefield) is the most effective.

3. I am eating breakfast! |

You would have to tell me who the activist group was, because I did not want to look.

2. I don't like them either |

I have the pictures blocked on my computer, but can't block on my blackberry.
I don't NEED to see additional carnage every time I visit DU. It's tragic enough just seeing photos and footage of Japan and of despair in so many other parts of the world.
That being said, I guess I'm willing to put up with it since my little donations aren't enough to pay for DU, so the revenue needs to come from somewhere. Where is OUR George Soros?

4. Hideous photos designed to shock and repel |

but they also risk desensitizing their target audience (DU) to the point that we ignore them. To the powers that be: PLEASE remove these offensive ads.
"Where is our George Soros" made me laugh. :)
