Police officer's wife facing jail after milking $60,000 out of friends who thought she had terminal cancer

A police officer's wife faces up to 15 years in jail after pleading guilty to taking $60,000 from donors who believed she had terminal cancer.

Ann Crall, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, admitted theft and charity fraud on Friday and will be sentenced on April 28.
Crall, 31, began her scam in the autumn of 2005, telling people that she had stage-four cancer and was beginning treatment, police say.

Over the next four years she accepted charitable contributions from friends, neighbours and church members.

1. More from the article:
'Her husband Richard was not indicted but resigned from the Lakewood police force in November, two months after being put on paid administrative leave.'

I find it hard to believe that the cop-husband wasn't complicit, seeing that he resigned over it. Why in pluperfect hell is he NOT being indicted alongside his miscreant wife? Another line from the article shows that she's no stranger to the courts:

'While it was not made clear what Crall spent the money on, court documents show she has a lengthy criminal history - including charges for obtaining drugs via fraud.

She has 24 charges of obtaining or possessing drugs - having been arrested in 2008 and 2009 in connection with fraud, counterfeiting and obtaining a controlled substance via fraud.

In May 2010, she was charged with seven counts of possessing, distributing and manufacturing drugs.'

A 'lesser' mortal, i.e., one not married to a cop, would be locked away under the jailhouse...but this one was allowed to continue illegal activities, and I contend it was because she was married to a cop. The scam for which she was arrested was obviously too high-profile to keep under wraps any longer, and that's probably the *only* reason it was prosecuted.

2. If our government provided Medicare for All, these scams would not be possible. n/t
