Heart is breaking for Japan. What happens to us with fallout is minors. Not saying it can't harm, I don't know how to calculate that, but there's shit I can do about it anyway. I can make a donation to the Japanese Red Cross. I can have a garage sale, a sale at work, and look for other ways to give.

1. There is something you can do, and it is minor

in terms of what it requires of you, but helpful in the extreme. Get some iodine tablets.

130 mg per adult per 24 hour period. (Don't know what the dose for a kid would be - probably a third of a pill for two to eight year olds, half pill for eight to twelve, and depending on size of th individual kid, full pill for those over twelve.)

Do it now - after Nine eleven and the worries about something else coming at us, the 300,000 available iodine tablets were quickly sold out. And our government doesn't seem to have any more to hand out, despite the trillions of dollars that Homeland Security has been given for the last decade.

If the iodine tablets are not to be had, you can use kelp powder, or actual kelp seaweed.

One precaution: if an individual has kidney problems, and the iodine tablets also contain potassium, talk to the doctor.
