Will Kucinich Reintroduce HR6200- Hand Counted Paper Ballots?

Dated...

By Nadia Goodenu July 29, 2007

No matter how much time and energy progressives spend attempting to change the direction of the country, none of it matters without real election reform before the next election 2008. Last October Congressman Kucinich introduced HR6200 as reported by DUer "Land Shark

ANNOUNCEMENT: “Introduced, 20 co-sponsors HR 6200 -paper ballots, hand counted, results posted at precinct. This bill came from this movement.

This weekend in Cleveland Ohio, the “We Count Conference” have been hearing from great speakers about election fraud and the movement to return accountability and integrity to US elections. Speakers included State Sen. Marc Dan, Greg Coleridge, Paul Lehto, , Ron Baiman PhD, Jonathan Simon, Richard Hayes Phillips PhD , Bob Koehler , Bob Fitrakis, Harvey Wasserman, & Mark Crispin Miller. The highlight of the event was Congressmen Dennis Kucinich and his announcement of new legislation as reported by DUers Autorank and LandShark…

I’m at the We Count 2006 Conference in Cleveland. After a break for dinner, we resumed with an address by Dennis Kucinich, D, OH. He made the remarks below and then announced that he’s introduced H.R. 6200, a bill to guarantee that the 2006 election will be conducted on “hand counted, paper ballots, counted and posted at the precinct level” with the process open to all to observe. This was a real stunner. There is some legislation out there on stop gap measures but this is the whole 9 yards, the ultimate in election intgrity - Machines are Gone under this legislation…GONE.

This is probably the most important thing we could do right now...
...to protect our democracy.

Go Dennis.

1. FORGET ANY progressive legislation coming out of that House. Just work on the 2012 House elections.

2. Should have been the 1st order of business in 2008.
Given the anti-social radicalization of the Teapublican Party, I have no doubts that they are going to take advantage of their recent election wins at the State levels to make voting as difficult a proposition as possible. They don't believe in Democracy. They believe they own the government and they'll do anything they can to protect their franchise.

3. While the machines continue to count, the Scott Walkers of this world will continue to rule.

4. Yep, the main reason for running this is, hopefully , Wisconsin
is waking people up across this country. Now maybe they will take this secret vote counting scam more seriously.

Pretty bad when they won't even let the candidate have a complete hand count.

VICE PRESIDENT GORE

November 15, 2000

SNIP...This is a time to respect every voter and every vote. This is a time to honor the true will of the people. So our goal must be what is right for America. There is a simple reason that Florida law and the law in many other states calls for a careful check by real people of the machine results in elections like this one. The reason? Machines can sometimes misread or fail to detect the way ballots are cast, and when there are serious doubts, checking the machine count with a careful hand count is accepted far and wide as the best way to know the true intentions of the voters.

That is why there have already been partial or complete hand counts not just in two Democratic counties in Florida, but in six Republican counties as well.

We need a resolution that is fair and final. We need to move expeditiously to the most complete and accurate count that is possible. And that is why I propose this evening a way to settle this matter with finality and justice in a period of days, not weeks.

First, we should complete hand counts already begun in Palm Beach County, Dade County and Broward County to determine the true intentions of the voters based on an objective evaluation of their ballots. Observers and participants from both parties should be present in every counting room, as required under Florida law. The results of this recount would, of course, be added to the present certified vote total and the overseas absentee vote total. If this happens, I will abide by the result, I will take no legal action to challenge the result, and I will not support any legal action to challenge the result. I am also prepared, if Governor Bush prefers, to include in this recount all the counties in the entire state of Florida. I would also be willing to abide by that result and agree not to take any legal action to challenge that result. If there are no further interruptions to the process, we believe the count can be completed with seven days of the time it starts
