Rep. Kucinich unable to visit Manning
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has been unable to visit with Private Bradley Manning, the U.S. soldier accused of leaking State Department cables to WikiLeaks, despite being a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

"I put in a request to the secretary of defense, who referred me to the secretary of the army, who referred me to the secretary of the navy, who referred me to the secretary of defense, and still not an answer on whether or not I can visit Private Manning," Rep. Kucinich explained to Scott Horton of KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles on Friday.

He previously announced he would visit Manning to investigate reports that he had been subjected to abuse while in custody.

Manning attorney David Coombs revealed last week that for at least two nights in row, the Army private had been "stripped naked" for as long as seven hours at a time. <---snip--->

2. They do too torture DK, they don't want you to see him firsthand
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 05:52 PM by Rex
to see the mental damage they have done - so in other words, you won't get to see him.

But of course he is an 'enemy of the state' - so we get to do whatever we want to him.

4. Neat...
What level of government do you have to be before you can trot out any prisoner you have an interest in? Can the city dog catcher do it? State representative?

6. The Secretary of the Navy?
WTF does the Navy have to do with this? I thought Quantico was a Marine base.

9. What is Kucinich doing?
Apparently no one has told him that "oversight" committees are supposed to be for assigning blame after the public finds out how F'd up things are, not for trying to proactively do anything to try to prevent things from getting F'd up in the first place. If he needs a good example, he should check out the House banking committee. They know how it's done.
