5. Maybe their bus broke down.
Or maybe they had a flash of genius and figured out that the only way a crowd like this can get any media attention is if a couple of 'baggers show up with pro-Walker signs.

9. Yes. I figure that every time something like this happens
right under people's noses and then they see that there is no media coverage, a few more start figuring out the truth about the Corporate Propaganda Machine. More cracks in their denial systems.

29. This thought has been running around in my head since the Madison
protests began. The bigger the crowd and the greater the quotient of "previously unengaged" the more scales fall from more eyes.

CorpoMedia© will soon be universally regarded as Pravda West.

I would bet that even in waukesha County he will now get protesters. The appear to be as deep red as the ring of suburbs around the Twin Cities.

16. Wow....
...you're right about Green Bay being a solidly-conservative area. It's a great town with a great NFL team (Go Packers), but their politics could use a makeover.

I hope that what happened in Wisconsin last week will motivate the labor movement just as much as the '94 assault-weapons ban fired up the gun lobby (unfortunately, but you know what I mean!).

33. Actually, Hansen can tahnk the Packers for getting him elected in the first place.
Edited on Mon Mar-14-11 02:13 PM by TheMightyFavog
You see, back in 2000, Brown County (Part of which is in Hansen's district) was engaged in a debate over adding a .5% sales tax to help pay for renovations to Lambeau Field. The Republican State Senator at the time refused to take sides on the issue, as a similar proposal down in the southeastern part of the state to fund the construction of Miller Park led to recall elections for two assemblymen and one state senator (One of the recalls was successful). So the Repug was in a real Kobayashi Maru Scenario. If he came out in favor of the tax hike, he'd risk angering his political base. If he came out against the tax, He pissess off the Packer fans.

It didn't help that the referendum for the .5% sales tax fell on the September primary day that year (IIRC, voter turnout in Brown County was at record levels for a fall primary. Well over 60%, IIRC) The sales tax passed, Hansen was able to paint his opponent as indecisive, and rode Packer Pride all the way to victory.
