Wife just got off the phone with her mom in Japan. First rolling blackout is this afternoon |

Scheduled for 2 hours downtime.
Local grocery store is completely out of fresh food and bottled water.
Gas stations are all shut down.
Her mother couldn't talk long, because she had to finish things like washing clothes, etc. before the blackout hits.
Thankfully, her whole family is all right, and, even better, are together. That is the one thing keeping them, and my wife, going forward right now.

I can't imagine having your life upsurped like that. I hope they can get fresh food and water in soon.

5. Happy your wife's family is doing okay. I heard a local (Seattle) |
|
guy on the radio yesterday who has been living in Tokyo several years, and he talked about the upcoming rolling blackouts. Makes sense - more important that they keep those reactors cooled.
I was thinking that the Japanese people will probably deal with this in a pragmatic way, whereas here, people would be bitching about losing their power a few times a day.
I wish them all the best.
