Reflection on President Obama's changing position on torture and Gitmo detainees.
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 08:30 PM by Skip_In_Boulder
A man dies and goes to heaven but a strange thing happens when he gets to St. Peter and the Pearly Gates. St. Peter tells him that he is kind of on the boarder line and he has the option to choose where he is going to spend eternity at, he can choose either Heaven or Hell. Well the guy thinks about it for a moment and although his first inclination is to choose Heaven he decides that well maybe he should at least take a look at Hell.

So first St. Peter takes him up to heaven and things are pretty cool there and the streets are paved with gold and people are kind of sitting around and playing their harps and singing God's praises and while it looks pretty comfortable he does think it looks pretty boring.

Do next St. Peter takes him to Hell and takes him to a bunch of guys who are hanging out at the 18th hole bar in their Polo shirts and they're all shooting the breeze and having drinks and there are a bunch of hot looking women hanging out with them so the man decides to spend the day there and see what he thinks. So he spends the day there and that night St. Peter takes him back up and says well why don't you spend the night here in limbo and you can decide tomorrow morning which place you want to go.

So the next morning St. Peter ask him where he wants to go and the man says that well Hell looked like a lot more fun than Heaven so he thinks he would like to spend eternity there. Done says St. Peter and takes him back to Hell. But when they get there everything is dank and barren and there are fires all around and the guys he was hanging out with previously are now chained down and having tobreak rocks with a pick ax and dying of thirst.

Aghast at the decision he has made and now has to live with he turns to St. Peter an ask, what happened? Where's the golf course and the green grass and the hot looking gals? St. Peter just shurgs his shoulders and says sorry, but today is the day after the election.

1. ANOTHER BS POSTS...
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 08:31 PM by dennis4868
what evidence is there that Obama is torturing anyone? There is talk about, especially around the liberal 24/7 we hate Obama blogs, but there is no actual evidence of it....close it down but cannot do so if congress will not fund it.

And with regard to Gitmo, Obama wants to close it down but cannot do so if congress will not fund it. Last time I checked, Obama is not wealthy enough to close it down himself....

11. First of all his treatment is similar to that of serial killers. May I point out he is innocent.
He is awaiting trial and presumed innocent. Why is he being treated the same as killers?

And if you are resting your case on what House said, you may want to reread. He says: "To the extent that it is inhumane, illegal, unconstitutional, and violative of international law— WHICH IT MAY BE —there are thousands of people in line ahead of Manning awaiting their U.N. investigations." He is saying that it may be torture but there are 20,000 others also being tortured. I guess that makes it ok.

Mr. Manning is a US citizen. He deserves bail, he deserves a speedy trial.

His treatment amounts to torture. They want to keep him alive (afraid of suicide) but dont care if he is sane.

This is despicable and not necessary and happening under a Democratic President.

It the crime Manning is accused of worse than outing a CIA agent like Ms. Plame?

14. Well I sure hope you are never on a jury, or worse, a judge.
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 11:11 PM by cui bono
Okay, I didn't mean on a judge, you can do that and I don't want to hear about it. But I hope you are never a judge. You haven't even heard his case in trial and you are fine with him being tortured.

The guy is innocent until proven guilty. But even if he is "guilty" I see him as a hero. Why do you think that being a whistleblower is disgusting? (Aside from it being a way to excuse Obama allowing his torture to happen.)

16. The right wing hates whistle blowers because they ruin the idea everything is under control.
It is the ultimate denial.

5. that's just the facts...
I guess what you are saying is that Obama is wealthy enough personally to close it down by himself? I say this because time after time congress has voted NOT TO FUND THE CLOSING OF GITTMO.....not sure if you are aware of this but it takes money to close Gittmo down....

Sources:

There are a million more sources I can provide you with if you like. You can say WTF to me but you are not playing with the facts....but you are certainly going by the DU "narrative"....The facts are the facts.

3. We heard of the GOP selling fear to gain power.
The fear must be warehoused in D.C. and leaks into the minds of those in the Capitol. I guess they feel they are in the center of the bullseye, which is probably true. It seems hope is being overwhelmed by fear.

19. "Softer" blanket? How about any bedding at all? No bedding, much less blanket, on cold nights.

As for requesting more tv, where's the harm in giving him more than 2 hours of programming when he's not allowed to exercise & is kept confined to his cell 23 hours out of 24?

Minimizing his treatment is wrong.
