TSA: Passengers may observe additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers
For Travelers

Passengers may observe additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers. TSA is carefully monitoring information related to terrorist tactics and working with our international partners to share information and security best practices.

The possible tactics terrorists might use include the concealment of explosives inside insulated beverage containers, so in the coming days, passengers flying within and to the U.S. may notice additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers. While such items are not being banned from travel, TSA Officers have been trained to detect a variety of threats including the concealment of explosives in common items.

TSA will continue to deploy risk-based security measures and work with our international, federal, state, local and private sector partners to protect the traveling public.

As always, the safety and security of the American people is our highest priority and we ask the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to their local authorities.

1. Yup, the French have done this. It's a good thing.
You have no idea what we're living like in Europe right now. It's like every other day there is a new terror alert because people are receiving biological attacks through the mail. I don't like the invasion of privacy but I'd rather live to see another day than fear my other wise innocent package is laced with something deadly. Ditto goes for my food and drink.

2. True, biological is probably one of their concerns not to mention
the possibility of an explosive like say plastique being concealed within them making it the perfect delivery system for some nutjob.

4. Exactly. Did you hear what happened to Merkel in Germany?

It's gotten worse since then. It started with public officials but not the packages are going towards ordinary citizens.

5. You don't want to do that in New York. From time to time we get alert searches in the subway.
I've dealt with about 5 of them since 9/11. Admittedly for the last two years I've been in France. However, in Paris...I'm dealing with the military on a regular basis taking the train with me.

7. May observe additional security measures?
How keenly Orwellian. How about "may be subjected to?"

This abuse and misuse of language in our government must stop, whatever the topic of the day.

9. I wonder what out next Christmas Terror Event will be?
Edited on Fri Dec-24-10 09:08 AM by lib2DaBone
What young student from the mideast with a fuzzy history and strong connection to the CIA will emerge to sound the Terror Alarm?

IF the next terrorist decides to put a stick of explosives up his rectum.. we know what the TSA response will be. (Lord help us all)

And now that the Food Safety Bill has passed.. we are being bombarded with stories about terrorists who want to poison our salad bar.

I see this as an opportunity for the TSA to drug check and investigate every bus boy, wait person and food service worker in America.
