2. Apparently they ran out of (diesel?) fuel to work the pumps
The plant operator said water levels fell as fuel for pumps that are used for seawater injection operations ran out.

3. NHK is saying they have detected radiation outside the reactor so rods may have been compromised

to running out of fuel to run the pumps, per the ongoing news conference, fuel & pumping have been resumed.

He is the guy who gives the updates. If he says it like that then it has to be much worse.

they ran out of fuel for the pumps. the water level went down with only 30 cm left. fuel is restored, pumping resumed, water now back to 70 cm & rising.

10. Fuel rods were fully exposed at number 3 for 2.5 hours. (Kyodo news agency)
They are injecting water and letting off steam which has some radioactivity in it.

11. "were" being the operative word. things have moved since.
they've been pumping water for some time and i am currently listening to tepco release which is saying if the pace of pumping has been maintained the rods are basically covered again.
