Not to worry, another Chernobyl is impossible
Chernobyl didn't have an internal containment structure like they have in Japan so that fact that the Japanese main reactor buildings were blown to smithereens doesn't matter, the internal containment structures are just fine, no damage to them.

Nevertheless, 200,000 people in a 10km radius are evacuated, some tested were found to have been exposed to radiation and the US 7th Fleet, hundreds of miles away out to sea, moved the hell out of there. Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper of CNN, now about 120 miles away from the nuclear plants, on the air asks one of his nuclear scientist guests if he should get the hell out of there.

The US nuclear power companies say our nuclear plants are safe and will be even "safer" as a result of the lessons learned in Japan.

No problem.

Does anyone believe this bullshit?

6. Don't worry, plenty of DUers insist they wouldn't lie to us.
Really. The Japanese told us on Friday that everything was under control...why would they lie? Okay, so it turned out that they lied, but now they're not. I swear.

:eyes:

The nuke apologists are out in full force.

4. Nope. Not buying it.
My old state used to have two nuclear power plants. Both are now decommissioned. One of them is Rocky Flats which has now turned into a protected wildlife refuge, but recent reports shows that there are still tritium on the soil.

Nope. Not buying it one bit.

17. I do, to a point.
The reality is this: technology, and with it, humanity and life, advances on the back of the most efficient energy source available. Always and inevitably. And NONE come without cost. Fire, which started it all, cooked our food and warmed our caves, extending human life in the process. Pre-fire men lived on the ragged edge of extiction, as inferior animals. With fire and tools we became something more. But fire will kill you. The same applies to all technologies. All can extend and enhance life, all improve efficiency (even if it only means more efficient murder), and all have a cost.

Nuclear has a cost too. Crying about it as though this is some new thing is ridiculous. The cost, while it sometimes sucks to the historically microscopic number impacted, is insignificant compared to the alternative. And while that might clash with your fears or conflict with your political correctness, none the less, there it is.

If those who do not understand (and want to "teabag" their way into the future embracing ignorance and emotion and fear as if their were medals of virtue) would get the fuck out of the damn way, we could easily have FREE SAFE and CLEAN electricity everywhere in America, and be actively working on powering the world. No more poor freezing to death or cooking in the summer, no more gas guzzling cars smogging the atmosphere, no more toxic coal fumes, no more melting ice caps and global warming. Just free clean and safe power, with new innovations coming fast and furious, every year becoming more efficient, safer still, more available, the air getting cleaner... lives extended.

Our kids and grandkids will live in a bankrupt police state. Their inheritance from this -- america's greediest and lazyiest generation -- will be a debt. We have fucked EVERYTHING else up pretty spectacularly. DON'T FUCK THIS UP TOO!
