So how destructive this was?
At this point looking at a map of damage... actually worst than ... Haiti... it is fairly wide spread, and most of the damage was done by the Tsunami.

The threat right now is disease... (see water), and of course lack of food, water and energy.

It will take at least two weeks for the government to really have an idea how bad this is.

But how do you start? You start where you are, and move out in a sector search, and hope that help comes from the outside and again starts sector searches.

You divide the area into sectors, and local, and regional commands... that is how you do this.

But it will be larger than... Haiti, in some ways... probably not the numbers of Haiti, as in dead... but this is bad.

(And that does not include the nukes, that only adds to the disaster and makes this now a global catastrophe)

7. Because Japan is a rich country with a lot of resources and a functional government
Haiti wasn't and isn't.

3. A friend of mine just returned from Haiti today...
She was on a Habitat for Humanity build, and she said she would go back. I wonder if they will go to Japan as well, but I think it will be some time before this kind of building can happen. Haiti estimates are between 200,000 and 300,000 the last I heard. Dear God please let's not see as much death again.

The nuke thing is getting very scary. I understand that information release must be measured and weighed against further destruction at the hands of panic, but that's not going to assuage my grief or dissuade my desire for information.

8. We might reach 50K from what I have seen
and the number of people missing. One town alone is reporting 10K missing.

building standards like those in Haiti though, we would be looking at close to a million dead I suspect.
