Gov. John Kasich has repeatedly promised he won’t raise taxes in the budget plan he unveils today, but a new Ohio Poll suggests a slim majority of Ohioans would accept a combination of tax increases and spending cuts.
The poll also shows that Kasich, after two months in office, has an approval rating of 40 percent – the lowest initial rating for an Ohio governor in 28 years.
• Politics Extra blog

he new GOP governor, who will roll out his two-year budget plan today in Columbus Tuesday, has pledged to fill the anticipated $8 billion budget shortfall with deep cuts in all areas of state government, without raising taxes.

2. The less popular the GOP gets
The more powerful they become.

Sounds perfectly legit to me -- now where can I cast my non-verifiable vote?

4. He won with 49% of the vote
Is 40% really that bad? Seeing how 51% of people didn't want him in office, it doesn't seem that bad.

5. We have the same dilemma in Ohio that Obama faces in
Washington. The Republicans enacted a series of tax cuts the last time they were in charge of the state. Governor Strickland was stuck between a rock and a hard place he couldn't raise taxes then gets blamed for cutting services to balance the budget. There are more tax cuts going into effect this year that the Republicans voted in years ago. The Republicans aren't going to stop the cuts so now services get an even deeper cut and state employees get blamed for the debt.

6. He is going to cut taxes
for spoiled rich brats by removing the estate tax. Don't worry, teachers, police and firemen will pay for it.
