12. The Japanese reporters are clearly thinking the same
They were fed up and demanding specific answers.

9. Not so bad for the West Coast right now, but very concerning for Tokyo &...

...areas to the South and West of Fukushima, at least today. I have no idea what the weather forecast is for tomorrow. What I am still not hearing about is a Chernobyl style explosion which would toss heavy radioactive material into the Pacific Jet Stream, in which case I will uncontrollably evacuate my bowels and throw up at the same time. OnEdit: To be clear, nothing indicates material getting into the Pacific Jet Stream at this time and the design of the plants attempts to prevent a situation which would lead to that.

But just to be clear, nothing I know of currently indicates U.S. West Coast is in danger. The spent fuel rods which are near the reactors (above and to the side of each) could start a radioactive fire if they lost cooling and were congregated together. That is the real "worst case" I can possibly thing of.

However, it is a long-shot disaster, even in a week of long-shot disasters.

10. Depends on whehter and how much crap gets onto the jet stream
Best case an x-ray dose... worst case... highly unlikely, time-distance. we are going to be in a nuclear emergency. I emphasize... this is highly unlikely at this time.

Does not mean this is good either... OW SHIT is right.

Fucking dumbasses.

It's so weird watching NHK and hearing about this, I usually watch their news and it's like so quaint. This is fucking depressing.

7. THey went from 3 ATMs to 1 ATM
So they could have cracks in the vessel...

(That ATM drop is not good... they probably do have cracks)

From what they are saying it is at the bottom of the vessel... oh and operators have been evacuated, since the containment vessel is the last line of defense, and this is a very serious situation, and this problem may spread. The release of contaminated water is very unusual, this could be the worst case scenario

That is a generic schematics, look at the bottom of the reactor that is what they are talking about. .

8. Look at the NHK crawl
As I understand it, Normal msv is 3. Outside the plant it is 8,217.

11. Here for what a Msievert is
SI multiples and conversions

Frequently used SI multiples are the millisievert (1 mSv = 10−3 Sv) and microsievert (1 μSv = 10−6 Sv) or (1 mSv = 0.001 Sv) and (1 μSv = 0.000001 Sv).
An older unit of the equivalent dose is the rem (Röntgen equivalent man). In some fields and countries, the rem and millirem (abbreviated mrem) continue to be used along with Sv and mSv, causing confusion. Here are the conversion equivalences:
1 Sv = 100 rem
1 mSv = 100 mrem = 0.1 rem
1 μSv = 0.1 mrem
1 rem = 0.01 Sv = 10 mSv
1 mrem = 0.00001 Sv = 0.01 mSv = 10 μSv

We are at max exposure at least for crew

13. The thing about experts is that the only thing that
makes them experts is that they think they know more than anyone else and are told so by others that they think they know more than anyone else. And to that officials hiding things and the media just searching for any thing they can throw on the air and it boils down to the people having no idea what the hell is going on.

16. Actually experts usually do know more
but they have been creative in telling you the truth without not telling you the truth.

Trust me as a Public Information Officer I know how to play the game... it is just how not to get the BS to be that obvious.

But a nuclear engineer is an expert. The problem in the US is that the MAJORITY of people in the field were trained in the Navy... hence they cannot go on the tv and actually tell you exactly what is happening. It is the classification level.

19. Angry Dragon, do you know the definition of an "expert?"
an Ex is a has-been and a 'spert is a drip under pressure.

That is how we referred to them in litigation.

Whores for the most part in a general sense, and again that was litigation.

But for this civil emergency, with its potential, I think we are getting the most reliable folks the media, and of course for the industry with vested interests' and politicians' vested interests, can find.

I like some of the guests that E. Spitzer has been having on, both expert and eyewitnesses there in Japan via Skype.

Most of the other reporting is yuck.

Standing by in California.
