5. ABC was reporting authorities were saying the number 2 reactor's container has been damaged... |
|
Not long after the most recent explosion in that reactor. It's in this Aussie news feed at 10:06 AM http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/japan-quake-2011/#entry-6a00e0097e4e6888330147e33686b3970b

8. I just heard Edano say that, almost in passing. But the fire is the big one we want to avoid. |

16. If it really is a nuclear fuel fire- which we don't know definitively it is- then... |
|
...no. I don't think it can be stopped. Technically, there are substances which might be able to be dumped onto it but with the shape the country is in I doubt even those could be mustered.
From what I understand it's like white phosphorous. It just doesn't quit until it's done. That's what I know, anyway. I am no expert by any means though. But a fuel fire is the worst, AFAIK. I didn't even think that would be a possibility until I started hearing about the spent fuel rods.
And hopefully, hopefully I'm full of shit.

20-30 km STAY INDOORS. Close windows don't use ventilation equipment. Don't take laundry in that is hanging on the line.
