I must have that exact same thought pop into my head at least once a day -- and it always has the stunning effect of an ugly revelation. Who knows, I may start a doppleganger thread on this theme tomorrow.

Thanks for your thread, however, you don't get to keep the rock.

49. They would rather spend their money on some underground lair
to protect them from their destructive policies, than to rein in their greed & avoid that destruction. What the fuck is wrong with these people? Who the fuck wants to live underground? Do the right thing NOW & maybe we (Oops, my bad! "We" are not included.) won't need underground caves to protect us from what we have wrought.

When I was a little girl I had to spend significant time with a cousin who was a mean little shit. He didn't really want my toys, but he didn't want me to have them either. He broke my crayons, he spray painted my doll house with red paint, he ripped the leg off my favorite stuffed animal. These people remind me of him. We are a nation being overrun by people behaving worse than a five year old brat. And they get elected! And promoted! And bailed out!

If the grownups don't take control soon, we're not going to have anything worth saving.

74. "... once they destroythis country ..." You're badly mistaken here!
The Re:puke: do not intend to distroy this country. They have a plan and they are sticking to it.

They intend to turn this country into a fascist state and are already well on their way to completing this goal. There will be an elite class consisting of the wealthy and corporations and the politicians who serve them and a pee-on class (the rest of us) who will exist only to serve them and to bear the weight of country's debt.

76. And the paid politicians are more than willing to oblige. And that portion of the
masses that are mindless are more than willing to assist. It's an extremely bad combination all the way around. And if fascism doesn't work, then we will move toward a fascist police state. It's all part of a plan being rolled out and so very obvious. It's very sad.

And since 1974 when Gerald Ford pardoned him, not only for Watergate but for all offenses from January 20, 1969, the day Nixon was first inaugurated as president.

27. We had the hearings on as often as possible
When the news leaked that Nixon was resigning, a friend threw a party - there were twenty of us there to cheer his speech. The only Nixon speech we ever approved of!

After Ford pardoned him, I realized that my first vote for a national office had been stolen and I got really down on politics. What was the point if dirty tricks could turn an election like that and if people are that stupid to vote for an asshole like Nixon?

I didn't vote for several years, but when I started dating my now hubby, he convinced me it is important. His brother had worked on the McGovern campaign and was an early volunteer for the Carter campaign, so he was more plugged in. I don't think I have missed an election since, unless by accident.

28. Nah it was when Hoover took over the white house and invented the trickle
down theory which every R since tried to make work. The difference between Ike and those that followed Ike was Ike pretended to stand up for the working class while cutting deals with his corporate buddies. One of the reasons things worked out for Ike was the U.S. the only country able to mass produce so the U.S. had no competitors on the global market until he started his second term but because the U.S. thought it was a joke they didn't see the threat.

Japan entered the global market with cheap toys mass produced cheaply. By 1963 Japan started dumping cheaply made motorcycles on the U.S. market, in 1964 Japan dumped 1 million motorcycles on the U.S. before they even had demand for Japanese motorcycle's, the Japanese solved that problem by hiring an American ad company who conned the country into making a demand for Japanese motorcycles. By the time Nixon was elected to the white house Japan held the number 1 spot in motorcycle sales so by 1971 very few Motorcycle companies were left and Japan had no competitors left in the motorcycle Market. Same with Automobiles, where were the trade barriers while this was going on? The R's defanged them by allowing concessions to let Japan dump on the U.S. Hindsight is 20/20.

Government organziations that provide the warning systems for Tsunami's, Earthquakes, Tornado's etc. In light of the disaster in Japan the Republicans are still pushing forward. They won't touch the Pentagon, the Tax cuts for the rich or anything that would impact their financial backers.

Just the extreme RW ones.

I know a few rather reasonable Republicans, actually.

Just like not all Democrats are sane. There are some Democrats...extremely LW, comparable to the degree of RW craziness of Republicans...who scare the bejeezus out of me.

Although I do vote Democrat at least 99.9% of the time, I do realize that each side needs, and balances, the other.

That is such an easy out, and will get us nowhere.

When we look at the treachery in our own party, and the way WE have a lot of the same characteristics, then push back on the corporate ownership of the country, THEN we have a chance of reclaiming this country.

Blaming it all on the Republicans is a distraction that just loses valuable time from the real struggle.

This recent article about democrats and republicans in Texas scheming together

60. IMHO
The greatest threat to America is the stupidity of the proletariat. One would think with all the advances we've had, people would be smarter, but every day, I see countless cases of just down right dumb shit. Cashiers can not make change without using the Ammt. tended feature. If you have the odd 3 cents after the transaction is rung up, they can't figure it out. My postal carrier has yet to grasp that the envelope that says 1232 goes in the box that says 1232. People can not spell or punctuate. It goes on and on.

I suggest that anyone that hasn't already seen Idiocracy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/ check it out. It's truly prophetic~

61. I need to see that movie, will do. I'm going to borrow something someone said
on another thread, but I'll apply it to Americans. Many Americans today are more stupid than a bag of rocks. What really gets to me is people today are stupid and they just don't care, and many wear it as a badge of honor.

71. I would say radical rightwing extremists
no matter what party they belong to are the threat to this country.
