It's just so overwhelmingly sad to see and to think about.

2. Exactly. Watching this from the outside is hell, I can't imagine how people
are coping there.

3. It's really hard not to get caught thinking about it all day

feeling helpless and then trying to distract oneself.

Decent humans always empathize; a true friend hurts when you hurt.

I think about the traumatized people in Japan without shelter, enduring endless tremors and worrying about food, water, the basic luxuries of life like being warm and safe. And then there's the unthinkable nuke situation. I think when one suffers, we all suffer. It sucks to only be able to watch and seems so trite to maybe throw a few dollars their way. :(

6. and without loved ones
everybody they interview, one or more in their immediate family are missing.

facing everything else is horrendous enough, but doing so alone, or without the ones you love -- that's just heartbreaking.

8. how many must be cold, wet, hungry, trapped
dying alone and afraid. I look at the faces of the old people, those who lived through the war and it's aftermath, the rebuilding of their country....and now again.
