Hand printed sign on blue-collar van in GA: "Support communism and socialism. Join a union."
Another sign went on about how unions are extortion. I was on the freeway and couldn't stare but he was a cell-phone yakkin blue collar man. Dear GOd how did they get (and remain) so stupid.

8. He's happy being underpaid and expoilted by his betters.
Rich people *should* be able to tell him how much money he makes, it's been pounded into his thick skull since birth that they are all better than him, because, well, they gots lots of money.

Every anti-union blue-collar jerk I've ever run into fall into two main catagories:

1. They actually were once in a union, but couldn't hack it. They HAD to show up on time. They weren't allowed to call off whenever the fishing was good, or because they were hung over real bad on Mondays, or leave work early whenever it was sunny out and they wanted to hit the beach early.

They got written up for coming back in from lunch break dead drunk or stoned to the gills. They got written up for taking a forty minute break, when everyone else only took their fifteen. After being warned multiple times by the empoyer to clean up his act, even the union rep couldn't save his sorry ass, and they got fired.

Then all you ever hear out of them is how "the union screwed me over!".

2. Stupid.

They LIKE earning less money.

13. Propaganda pure and simple.........
Remember you've got to THINK things through and THINK for yourself to overcome 80+ years of capitalist anti-union propaganda. And thinking is hard work. For a lot of folks it's easier to think what somebody TELLS them to think.

The boss has the money and power and everything official tells Joe the Idiot Plumber that money and power make right. If you don't like thinking and you've been told all your life WHAT to think, it's easy to hate unions EVEN IF A UNION WOULD BENEFIT YOU PERSONALLY.

That's what propaganda is and why it works.

10. the corporate media has convinced people that taxpayers are paying pensions.
This is so fucked! They've convinced their viewers that public worker's pensions are like some sort of bonus, that comes directly from the taxpayers.

We need to take back the airwaves somehow. the Internet is great, but the only coverage we got from the Wisconsin protests was via shaky and intermittent streams uploaded by activists. At least we had that, but, you have to seek it out.

The average media consumer is spun silly. The corporate media was in blackout mode for these important events.

14. His ingornace shocks me.
He says pensions are a gift and yet if you propose taxing CEOs or even simply suggest they not give themselves million dollar bonuses he rants for an hour about how they earned it and have a right to all their money. Am I the only who finds that hypocritical?
