Fire at No. 4 plant appears to be out! |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-14-11 10:48 PM by originalpckelly
Woohoo!
:woohoo:
Damn good news for a fucking change!
Although, the reason reported for it going out was a hydrogen-oxygen explosion at the containment building just like the other reactor containment buildings on site. It looks like the explosion extinguished the fire, because it might have starved the fire of oxygen.

2. They also had an explosion, which conceivably is what put it out |

10. Yeah, now I see the story. |
|
This might be terrible, but it could be wonderful.
They didn't mention the explosion part.

11. The reactor itself blew up? |
|
Wasn't one of these hydrogen explosions people are talking about...it actually blew?

13. It was a hydrogen explosion, per another thread. |
|
So it's no worse than the other explosions, which appear to have left the spent fuel OK. Though, it may not be, and the authorities could be lying to everyone. But someone would find out eventually about the radiation.

16. Okay, thanks that makes me feel a hell of a lot better! |
|
Ya why lie? People will find out...so not a big deal, like the actual reactor exploding. Whew.

17. You cannot get a nuke type here, the physics are not there |
|
but you can still get a normal, regular explosion and that be bad news for other reasons

15. Yes but the explosion will remove oxygen |
|
from the triangle of fire displacing it.

12. This most recent one, obviously, at No. 4 which starved the fire of oxygen. |
|
I doubt it's bad though, because the explosion probably wouldn't hurt too much of the stored fuel, at least no more than the other buildings that went up.

6. It evidently exploded which consumed all the oxygen and extinguished the fire |
|
who knows what kind of crap was released in the air during the explosion so i think is a bit soon to be woohoo-ing IMO. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x647375

9. They'll be able to detect it, and if they lie, someone will find out. |
|
There are undoubtedly independent authorities monitoring this shit.

14. HA! I wouldn't trust "the authorites" in this situation at all. Their job is to prevent panic |
|
that's it. They aren't worried about the truth a few months from now, a few weeks from now, or even a few days from now - they are worried about PANIC right now. If I lived in Japan I would assume worst case scenario and act accordingly. And with radiation - by the time you find out - it's often too late anyways.

|
It may be irrelevant. The nuclear "fire" certainly isn't.
