Maybe a Thread Dedicated to the Japanese is in Order
it doesn't have to be this one, just anyone. A thread to show them all that we hope for the best and eventually hope to help them in any way possible. Let's show those who have loved ones there that we are not like those who are ignorant or xenophobic, and that WE truly represent the majority of America.

1. I am in awe of the Japanese spirit
the humanity, respect and kindness towards one another in this nightmare. We should all be humbled.

3. This is such a tragedy and I pray for the people there and all here
who have friends and family there. It is hard to have courage in the face of this type of tragedy. I can't quit thinking of you all.

5. I weep for them. They have been through this kind of disaster twice
now. WWII and this.

7. So resilient, stoic, friendly, often-times very child-like in nature; this is how I think of Japan
and it's people.

Nice idea for a thread, I support 100%

10. As a Katrina survivor
all that I can say is hold tight to your family, friends and neighbors. The long haul comes when the clean up begins, because it is then that the magnitude of loss starts sinking in. You have to learn to make do with very little, and be thankful for what you still have. It's tough, because you start operating in a crisis mentality, and occasionally, that proves to be enough to make you want to just give up.

Enduring weeks with no water and electricity seems small, though, in the face of all of the issues they are contending with in Japan. We were luckier than most during Katrina, too, since we still had a house standing.

Most in the affected areas don't have that luxury. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

11. I have changed my avatar, for starters:
Never been to Japan, and not sure I've even met any Japanese (from the homeland, that is). If a disaster like this hit the USA, it would be an era-defining tragedy -maybe even bigger than 9/11 (the death toll alone is far higher). I'm speechless.
