Gulf dolphin jumps into boat; injures self and woman

Dolphins do not normally do stupid things like this.

Still no necropsy reports on the baby dolphins that washed ashore a few weeks ago. Down the memory hole it goes...

3. Agree -- we think we can destroy nature and animal-life w/o destroying ourselves???
Only rw "know-nothing's" would think that!

4. I'm starting to wonder if Doug Adams wasn't right.
Coincidentally, our trivia team had this question tonight: "In Douglas Adams' 'Hitchhiker' series, what was the second most intelligent species on Earth, behind the mice?"

So long and thanks for all the fish.

:(

9. It was only a matter of time before we pissed off the dolphins...
...let's just hope they don't develop opposable thumbs anytime soon:

11. How shitty, they threw him/her back in instead of getting some medical
care longterm. What if that gets infected...oh right, humans.

13. Some other thoughts
Aside from the fact that a dolphin would never make a miscalculation like that, dolphins have never acted aggressively towards humans in the wild. They take extra care to be gentle with us in their habitat while harming us would require very little effort. This dolphin looks bloated.
This was no accident.

14. I wonder if he was reaching out to humans for help
Do they recognize humans as superior beings? And if so maybe he is trying his best to call attention to himself and his species that they need humans to help them?

19. Possibly.
I don't think that they think in terms of which species is one up. I do think that they feel a kinship with us, are curious about us, and feel empathy and sympathy toward us when we are in their habitat.

15. I just hope he's all right...
I expected more from this story, like learning that he was examined by a vet who determined what was wrong. Poor guy, he looks so miserable... ;(
