The American Lung Association (ALA) recently released a new report on the dramatic health hazards surrounding coal-fired power plants.

The report, “Toxic Air: The Case For Cleaning Up Coal-Fired Power Plants,” reveals the dangers of air pollution emitted by coal plants.

One of the starkest findings in the report claims, “Particle pollution from power plants is estimated to kill approximately 13,000 people a year.”

So what's the biggest culprit?

“Coal-fired power plants that sell electricity to the grid produce more hazardous air pollution in the U.S. than any other industrial pollution sources.” According to the report details, over 386,000 tons ......................

1. Solar, wave and others kill none. Wind kills a bunch of birds.
So lets build more nukes!

3. And you are simply setting up the false dichotomy of fossil fuels or nuclear power
There is a third option, namely green renewables. They have now reached the point where they can fulfill all of our power needs.

5. Not really. Coal plants can be cleaned up and the cost to health reduced.
Of course there are cleaner options, but also there are cleaner ways to use coal.

9. But as I just pointed out, you don't need either coal or nuclear
Wind, solar and other green renewables are now perfectly capable of taking up the load.

There are no such things as clean coal, or safe nuclear power.

13. Awhh, Bullshit. Those dying from coal should feel better now, it that what you are saying?
So, now we can only discuss one problem at a time, is that your dictate? I call BULLSHIT!

If we are to solve our energy problems, including the dangers posed, first the facts must be aired and the context known.

There is no shame in facing the facts.

8. Good article thanx
Fossil and nuclear are both behind the times.

Even in the face of the current catastrophe, it's amazing how many people come out to defend nuclear.

The old ways die hard. Humans seem to have to repeat their mistakes over and over and over.

10. Who said they were?
Dead is dead but someone that died from lung cancer will not keep endangering the environment.
