Overseas aid offers flow in Help is arriving from across the globe as nations vow assistance
By MASAMI ITO
Staff writer

Offers of help have been streaming in from abroad in the wake of the massive earthquake and tsunami that wiped whole towns off the map in the northeast.

Day by day, international rescue teams have been arriving in the country. So far, hundreds of rescuers have arrived from South Korea, Singapore, China, the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, the United Nations, Russia, Taiwan and Mexico.

A 12-member team from Mongolia was set to arrive at Narita International Airport later Tuesday.

U.S. President Barack Obama said Monday morning in Washington that he was "heartbroken by the images of devastation in Japan" and reiterated the strong U.S. commitment to providing assistance.

1. My internal Mom kept me up all night last night...
I kept dreaming of having a house full of Japanese children who needed fed, bathed, clothed... and when the urgency hit me, I'd wake up.

Thanks for this... we need to see humanitarian aid en mass today, and ongoing for quite some time to come.

4. Precious little people!
And they are so good, so well behaved. I saw mothers standing in line for food... no one pushing, getting angry, or anything we would expect from our own country-folk. I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could afford to. I have an extra bedroom... and two sweet little dogs who need little kid hugs and make people feel good.

I have a friend in the Red Cross... the word is going out... big hearted Mom with open arms ready and waiting.
