1. I would say a ban on new nuclear plants |
|
and any new power constructs should be renewable such as solar, wind or geothermal.

3. I would support as rapid a phase-out of fission power plants... |
|
...as we could manage, but since you only offered "yes" (ban 'em) or "no", I voted "yes".

6. If solar power had been used as a backup power supplier |
|
would Japan have been better off now?
I hear they used diesle as a primary power but that it failed, and then the batteries failed. What if solar had been used as a backup power source for the water pumps? What about tidal power?

tidal power probably would be messed up by the tsunami but the others? they are not 24 7 sources the others and that is the problem unless they somewhow stock the energy.

8. you need caveats, grey areas |
|
like what other energy source do we use? you cannot just take that much power off of the grid at once without serious disruptions to our way of life.

10. They honestly believe their Magical Solar Fairies will make up the difference. |
|
I suspect that many of them actually WANT a huge disruption to our way of life; it would suit their "back-to-the-land" ethos. There's an apocalyptic fervor with some parts of the Left that mirrors the apocalyptic religious fervor of the Right. They're salivating at the prospect of doom in Japan; hanging on every rumor and tweet that foretells destruction.

14. Magical Solar Fairies? |
|
Yes if you have no real argument use condescension and statements that you made up in your head about what other people think. It's a brilliant tactic that has worked well for Republicans for years.

one day solar energy will be efficently storable and then people will love our magical solar fairies which give us all our energy.

11. Based on To Err is Human, I would support a total ban, yes. |
|
I suppose some will say that it wasn't human error that cause this, but an unexpected earthquake with a followup unexpected tsunami.
and I would say it was human error not to think ahead on this and build the facility accordingly.

13. Ban all nuclear, oil, natural gas, coal |
|
Obviously something like that couldn't take place overnight, but it would be nice to set a goal of say 20 years, after which all of the above would be banned

We have had too many fuck ups now and it's just not going to work out.
