2. Dead horse. These posts are absurd given the gravity of the situation.
And you really should take that offer to go Fukushima and help with the clean up.

...or 100% SOLAR, MAGNETIC, GRAVETIC? oh, forgot: our world has been monopolized/ dominated by hydro-electric, petroleum, nuclear AND we're polluting the hell out of our water planet...profit$ over Life!

13. And his own personal oddness
Everything I've ever read or heard about Tesla tells me that he was OCD and/or somewhere on the highest functioning end of the autism spectrum. And I am Dxd Asperger's for six years now. I am nearly certain Tesla was one of us.

7. Stupid, inapt comparison.
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 02:00 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
AC current has long ago proved to be safe when controlled properly. If an AC system does fail its effects are not catastrophic - even major power grid failures don't kill thousands or poison the environment. If a nuke plant fails the results can be Chernobyl or what we see now in Japan. No system can ever be made perfectly safe or incapable of failure - so are we willing to risk another Chernobyl or another Fukushima? I don't think I am. To suggest this situation can be compared in any respect to early concerns about AC electricity is absurd, and I suspect was intended as flame bait.

11. Having been here longer doesn't make them not one.
They just have more practice in skirting the line without overtly crossing it.

15. Especially since I've taken to owning the label (with some qualifications).
I am a Democrat, and am not here to advance a Republican agenda; I do not own that definition. But I do often argue indirectly and set up my opponents to trap themselves. I would argue that Socrates was an epic troll, and that these tactics do more to advance debate than the mob action, strawmen, ad hominems, appeals to emotion, and unqualified assertions of my opponents. Some of the time, all I have to do is set things up so that people cannot hold two contradictory positions at once (and they are often holding those contradictory positions because one or both of them are just being espoused to manipulate people and/or elected officials).

18. I did not say that I did not make them myself.
But I'm curious as to which ones you speak of. The "shit statement" threads are largely about ideas whose advocates haven't made much of a case, or are trivial to defeat.
