Wisconsin GOP suspects Democrats will flee again
Wisconsin Democrats who fled the state to avoid voting on a bill they described as union busting are back home, but the Republican leader of the Senate says he doesn't trust them to stay, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says he's heard rumors that the state Senate's Gang of 14 might bounce again when votes are taken on the two-year budget.

"We might have to make it more difficult for them to pull this stunt off again," Fitzgerald told the newspaper website. Fitzgerald told WTMJ-AM that because the Democrats were found in contempt for their last mass exodus, they cannot vote in committee until they respond to a roll call for a full Senate session. The next one is set for April 5.

Democratic Sen. Chris Larson said the move is unfair and means millions of people statewide won't be represented until April. He said Democrats will try to determine whether Fitzgerald's plan is legal and what action to take.

11. That doesn't quite fit
the Edmund Fitzgerald only went down once. Scott Fitzgerald goes down whenever Scott Walker tells him too.

4. Running away is not the answer and suggests that they do not respect the democratic process.
Furthermore, it will make this option available for Republicans to use against them in the future.

5. If the Democratic Senators had not gone to Illinois
then the bill would have passed. There was nothing they could do to stop it, except to prevent quorum. Preventing quorum for three weeks allowed the bill to be more thoroughly examined and debated, and the more people saw, the less they liked.

Quorum rules are built into our state constitution for this reason. It's a part of the Democratic process. And I would love for the Republicans to use it in the future - if they have to, it would mean they are in the minority.

8. It was the only option available. Walker and his cohorts want to railroad the state
into the 18th century. The Democrats took the only course available to derail the train. It is not the Democrats who disrespected the process. Not by any stretch.

7. If they can't vote in committee, why not leave the state now?
After all, they don't know what other voting tricks the Repukes will pull.

10. I agree. They should leave
They are not allowed to represent the people who voted them in anyway. No reason for them to stay.
