"4 in 10 of us will get cancer anyway"..
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 04:05 PM by SoCalDem
So said an "expert" on one of the MSNBC gabfests today.

This was his answer, when pressed about the implicit dangers in the possible radiation dangers to the Japanese people, and then to us, if the wind-drift brings enough here. They were also discussing the death-knell that was possibly dealt to the "suddenly-new-again" nuclear energy facilities the big shots want to build again.

The flippant way he said it, shocked me.

40% of our citizens will get cancer anyway..... a fait accompli.

That in itself is a frightening thing to think about, especially in a society that says "Yer-on-yer-own, Bub".

It might also contribute to the hyper-Hedonism the US seems to practice.

It's a sad footnote to the way so many people now live their lives. Too many of us work our whole lives for people we loathe, so we can pay through the nose for medical coverage they "offer" us. We "know" in our gut, that when we need the coverage the most, it will probably get yanked away from us, and the illness that ends our work-life, will suck every asset from us, before finally taking our life itself, so why NOT live like tomorrow will never come..

"On the Beach" is dated, but it kind of describes the frenzy so many are in , grabbing every pleasure they can...while they can.. Bigger houses, fancier cars, pricier luxuries, gigantic tvs, etc.

We spend so much time trying to LIVE, and live WELL, all the while trying to ignore that Sword of Damacles.

The processes and chemicals needed to make those things we covet, the very essence of the current jobs-market that employs us, enabling us to earn the money to buy the trinkets, are possibly also poisoning us bit by bit.

If you assume that 40% of Americans are going to get cancer anyway, why NOT push for nuclear power, chemical-laden food, clothing, furnishings, pollutant-spewing vehicles, etc.. It doesn't matter in the end, does it? If you are a CEO or politician or any other mover & shaker, you can rest assured that as long as YOU and your near & dear have enough money to see you through any dire consequence, why bother about the little people in that 40%..they will never be able to "pin it on you", because there are just so many others just like you who add to the "load".

2. 10 in 10 of us will die too.
So just because some of us will get cancer anyway, we are supposed to like the added risks.

what this clown should is anatomically impossible.

5. Maybe the expert could back that up by
drinking a glass of water with plutonium particles stirred in while munching on some uranium cupcakes, just to prove the point? Heck, he's probably gonna' get cancer anyway.

That expert should go get a barium enema! Assclown.

6. that's not a very good rationale- much better if we all
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 04:16 PM by tigereye
are able to live out our lives with a reasonable degree of health- why should anyone respond with that degree of fatalism?

There must be a reasonable balance between efficiency, safety, cost and health-risks somewhere...

7. Said flippantly by one who has never spent any time in a cancer ward.
I had to suffer through watching my husband battle cancer when he was 25 years old. It was hell on earth.

Anyone who thinks this type of statement is acceptable can bite me.

8. Shows their intentions -- or lack thereof.
Why bother cleaning up the water? Air? Land?

It's cheaper to let those drinking, breathing and living on that crap to die. And the sooner, the better.

Incredible. They have exposed their true colors: The Reich lives.

Thank you for the heads-up, SoCalDem. K&R.

Which is the most common form in America.

10. I've heard folks say the same thing
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 04:28 PM by MountainLaurel
About the potential dangers of eating Gulf seafood or living near a chemical plant. Not scientists or government spokespeople, but just everyday people who don't want to think that their employer might be killing them.
